i did several long voyages so basically the trick is that keep yourself in motion as long as you can... do follow the basic exercises to relax broadcasted on the plane and from time to time just get up walk a little and come back to your seat.also try to listen to music or watch a film and forget that you are actually on a plane that does help to relax :)

have a nice flight :)

I often fly long distances, and I'm really bad at sleeping on planes. To make it worse, my boyfriends sleep the entire journey with no problems, so I don't have anybody to talk to either. My trick is to not sleep much the night before my flight, so I'll be really tired. And then I follow your brothers advice and booze up. I'm not getting wasted or really drunk, because I don't wanna arrive hungover, but just a couple of drinks to make me tipsy. I fall asleep much easier that way. Another key, is to distract yourself from thinking about the time your on the plane. If your flight have an entertainment system, there will be a info screen with info like "time to destination". Try not to look at it to often, as you'll get annoyed every time you realize that not as much time has passed as you've imagined. If there is an entertainment system on board, watch some movies :) If there is none, you should bring movies or series with you on a laptop or smartphone. I've enjoyed watching series, such as 24 hours or Lost, or anything thrilling. That way many hours has passed without realizing, and suddenly, I've arrived. Also bring books or magazines, or similar to browse. Or play games - if you have a smartphone or tablet, download some stupid but addictive games like bejeweled or a puzzle game. Or if your a creative person, find something to "work" on. I like to draw, so I always bring something with me to work on. Distraction. And it's a good idea to grab the window seat if available. Much easier to sleep against, and people don't bump into you when walking down the isle. Bring an extra sweater, it can get cold on airplanes. And you can use your sweater as an extra pillow when you don't need it on. Have a nice flight :)

Move around as much as possible, take off your shoes when seated (you might want to bring an extra pair of socks, it can get cold up there). I always bring me a big beach towel and use it either as a pillow or blanket. Bring a good book and some to snack on.
