A man walking along a lonely road oneday saw a parrot's feather on the side of the road and told the next man whom he happened to meet that he saw 10 parrot feathers near the road.

That man in turn met another man and told him that he saw 10 dead parrots near the road.

now this story developed to the point where that 1 parrots feather became 10,000 dead parrots

Dont you think this applies to our religions as well?

Yup, it's all hear-say. Although people who believe in that will call it heresy (just playing with words :P)

You know what, you're right. Everyone seems to forget that all religions are manmade. There is no honest to betsy, hard core, tangible proof that any of the religions so many practice is true. And you know who knows the truth, and the only ones who know the truth? It is our loved ones who have already passed on. There are ghosts out there, but they haven't moved on yet and can't answer the question. But how do any of us KNOW without a doubt that our religion is correct? Because of a book? Be it the Bible, Koran, or any other religious text, were they not written by man? Is there any document out there that was written by a supreme being that suddenly appeared somewhere? NO! All religous text, regardless of which religion it is for, was written by man. maybe he wrote what he dreamed, or (if schitzophrenic) wrote what the voices in his head told him to write, but it was written by a living, breathing, man. Not an all-powerful being.

It's called "Chinese Whispers" sure, there was firstly Oral traditions for hundreds if not thousands of years before anything was ever written down..

Islam actually has an advantage here (in that it hasn't been diluted as much)because it's foundation relies more on Mohamed (who made it up) than it does Judaism, although it has the same roots

If things were only passed down through word of mouth, however, there are documents.

I can see how that analogy might fit the first few books of the bible, but not the entire thing, or all religions.

I think it applies to Monty Python.

"Nice bird isn't it, the Norwegian Blue? Beautiful plumage..."

I'm sorry. Dead parrots will never mean anything more than that to me.
