Hm. I'm not sure how the Vatican DIRECTLY interferes in other nation's politics - I mean it certainly dictates morals, but it doesn't FORCE the leaders of other countries to believe in them. The Vatican also isn't really a state in the traditional sense.

Then again Iran isn't really all of those things either. Iran has some level of democracy - more than some other Middle Eastern nations, even if their president doesn't have an awful lot of power, people still voted for him, and he does have SOME power.

I'd say the country that most prescribed to those ideologies would be Saudi Arabia, even if they're not a theocracy they have practically zero democracy, interfere in other nations (there are more Saudis than Iranians fighting in Iraq) and have few women's rights - not to mention the whole cutting off of hands business.

Still - an interesting point; how similar the Vatican and Iran are, and how the Vatican is loved and respected as a voice of sanity, wheras Iran is seen as raving. Why could this be? SURELY not because the Vatican is white (well OK so is Iran - but not a lot of people know that), Christian and doesn't have any oil?

Iran. chiefly cause they can actually enforce not "try" to impose. The Vatican can issue all kind of proclamations and what not but it amounts to nothing more than "advice", thats about the limit of their power in this day and age.

If you are not sure, why ask us?
If you are sure, why ask the question?

I would guess Iran, because I do not know how the Vatican is curtailing women's rights, unless you are talking about the Vatican's opposition to that murderous act called abortion.

Both but there is also a matter of degree.

Oh, and the Vatican doesn't just oppose abortion they also oppose any family planning other than abstinence. They oppose programs that would provide condoms to people in AIDS ravaged countries and birth control to regions where a high number of children born die in childhood because they can't feed nor provide the medical care they need.

Neither one does that.

Btw, by "medieval morality" you mean back when people actually had morals. right? Back when a woman would die first before letting any harm be caused to her unborn baby? Back when a baby was thought to be a gift from God? Back when people actually believed homosexuality was wrong?

Interesting question. One is run by a despotic mad man and the other by an ex Hitler Youth member. I don't see a lot of space between them.
