Because naming a child Mohamed is seen as honoring Mohamed, like naming a kid Jesus.

Naming a toy Mohamed is seen as being irreligious, like naming a vibrator Jesus, just because it helps you see God.

Since you live in America you are free to name your child, or your teddy bear, anything your little heart desires. Yes, the good old USA has its numerous problems but fortunately this is "not" one of them.
Only God knows what horrible things would happen if you were in another country such as the one where that teacher continues to be treated so outrageously!!!

You wouldnt be... Mohammed is the #1 most popular name given to boys in Islam....
Dont think these media events lately are representative of true Islam... Some people are ignorant of the true message and go to the extreme when upset about something.. This is not Islam... It was dealt with unjustly and not within the true faith of islam and what it stands for..

Giving a your child the same name as Islam's prophet isn't the same as making a visual representation of that actual prophet.
