Is Islam a religion of Violence or of peace? What is the truth? What made them violent?

Some may be peaceful and some may be violent it depends on the influences. What made some muslims (in the extremist side). Do the Koran allow suicide, homicide, torture, and terrorism or is it the people themselves? What is the origin of this culture? By the way, What is the cause of sectarian violence?

Its the Religion of Violence
and the reason its violent is because of what the Koran teaches
The Koran says its OK to R.ape,steal and lie to a Christian or Jew
but that its Wrong to lie,r.ape or steal from another Muslim
something is wrong with there religion.

No they are not violent , why don't you look at the whole picture. it is the Media propaganda which is controlled by Jews and Zionists, as well as the Christians who provoked this by colonizing their countries and treating them like slaves .
Have you ever thought of self defense first before you judge them ???
and for that ignorant (neweye 7) who say that Islam allow rape and violent to others but not to Muslims !!! it is very strange , may be he was confused the Old Testament as Quran . This is a big lie

No, Islam ,or any religion for that matter, is never violent or preaches about it. But muslims have been for so long living in the dark ages, they struggle to get out of it but their leaders (political or religious) won't let them. for different reasons like staying in power and sucking all their countries resources.
Edit: If you look at Muslims who were born and raised in developped countries, you'll see a different picture. So, mostly, it's not the religion, it's the atmosphere you live in. In the case of those living in muslim countries. violence is the result of frustration.

true Islam is very tolerant and non violent.. Islam in its infancy was very tolerant and Mohammed spoke gently to the people of other faiths and others. True Islam preaches non compulsion of religion.. Its your choice... We as muslims are only to deliver the message and its up to you to decide.. We are however to act and conduct ourselves in a very good way to set examples on this earth how to act.. These instances you read about, intolerance, terrorism, and events like the punishment of the rape victim and teacher.. are all by ignorant people who have interpreted the laws of Islam to the extreme point.. If they only understood or were knowledgable about the true spirit of Islam.. It even says in the Quran not to go to the extreme either way.. We should be wiser than that.. Sadly people of this era are more ignorant than those of the past.. I say this of all societies and cultures.. We might have the internet and modern technology, but we still are dumber as for as social norms go... These people do not represent the true spirit of Islam.. its sad.. but please dont generalize us all as that.. There are wonderful tolerant muslims, we just cant seem to get our voices out there yet...

Islam is not related to the term violence.Those groups of moslems who practices violence in solving diffrences are people who adopt moslem without knowing who they really are, where they come from and where they want to go home....meaning that they dont really know why they are sent to this world... They never perceive the real teaching in a wider horizon,just interpreting the teachings literally like what it is written there.Not learning or perceiving the Qur'an for the deeper meaning or what is really meant in the verses.For moslems with deep sense of spirituality,it's easy to know what is really meant in the teachings.

That is an ignorant question. All muslims are not violent and strict. The media portrays them as this, but in reality those on the television are a radical group of fanatics, not the average muslim. Islam is a religion of peace.

The religion does not promote violence. It's the INDIVIDUALS who choose to act the way they do, as with any religion. Islam doesn't condone all of the heinous and senseless acts that have been taking place.

It's a predominately peaceful religion, but in times of Jihad, Muslims are commanded in the Qu'ran to slaughter "infidels" or non-Muslims.

Violence. If you don't believe me, ask anyone in Kashmir, Chechnya, Darfur, Israel, Iraq, the Philippines, or Thailand, among other places.
