The 1st 4 or 5 are about how we treat God, then the rest are about how we treat each other.

Notice that these commandments were provided to the Jews by god. Notice that the order of these commandments are set by the order of the Jewish alphabet. The commandments are basic laws. They were provided to the Jews for Jewish use. It was not considered, when Moses wrote them down, that they would apply to gentiles (Non jewish people).

So there was an order, that can be seen by reading them in context, and they had a definite purpose. Don't murder, steal, lie, and have at your neighbors wife.

That has been expanded to suggest - don't have at anything you are not married to, (Unless you are a Pastor or priest), don't play aroung with anything that christians decide is "Sinful" (lots of things)
Actually there were 15 original commandments but Moses stumbled while coming off the mountain and dropped one of the tablets so 10 was the number.

they went by the Hebrew alphabet:

Aleph: I am Adonai thy God

Bet: Thou shalt have no other gods before me

Gimel: You shall not take the name of Adonai thy God in vain

Dalet: Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy

Hey: Honor your father and mother

Vav: you shall not murder

Zayin: you shall not commit adultery

Chet: you shall not steal

Tet: you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

Yod: you shall not covet

along with these meaning, each letter in the Hebrew alphabet has a teaching, some more than one. So there was definitely a reason why Yah picked these letters as He is a God of detail.

The god of the 10 commandments, the mountain of Sin, and the desert of Sin is Satan.

"As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness"

And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. Num 21:8-9

And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. Rev 13:14-15

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. Luke 4:5-7

Moses wanted the "promised land" and Satan said he would give it to him. (Satan mixed lies with truth). The land promised to Abraham was the kingdom of heaven.

They were randomly lifted from the earlier Egyptian religion. They had around 60 'commandments,' if memory serves.

Lots of commandments.

All summed up in two. See the 'New Testament' for further details.
