I had been meditating for the past 10 years (Vipassana) in Goenka tradition. Now I have found real progress with Ajahn Brahms methods. I want to practice Anapanasati (as taught by Ajahn Brahm) for long periods of time. Is there a retreat anywhere in the world?

In Buddhist meditation practice, a person is actually supposed to be able to meditate despite surrounding noise. Indeed, in some Buddhist temples a racket of bells, gongs, and chanting goes on during meditation. It is great if you have a quiet and nicely furnished place in your environment to meditate, but the real quiet and nicely furnished place should be inside yourself. Also outward sounds and sense experiences can be incorporated into the meditation experience. Buddhist meditation is sometimes about observation --not about shutting things out. It would be better for you to think in these terms than think that you can't meditate because the world around you is noisy or intrusive. 'In this place, what more need we see, as the truth eternally reveals itself. This very place is the Lotus land of Purity. This very body is the body of the Buddha."
