Joseph Smith didn't like the criticism aimed at him by a local newspaper. So, as mayor, he ordered its destruction. A mob decided that this attack on the freedom of the press was not on and in a fit of anger, a mob in Illinois, invaded the jail he was in and killed him.

Joseph Smith was killed for many reasons, but the flashpoint was when the Nauvoo, Illinois City Council (of which he was mayor) shut down a newspaper after one issue that had been accusing city and church leaders of incest, bestiality, theft, and other false accusations. The people was going to resort to vigilatism, but the city destroyed the press instead to spare the newspaper staffs' lives.

Smith and others in City Hall were arrested for inciting a riot. While awaiting trial in Carthage, Illinois, an anti-Mormon militia of 300 disbanded by the Illinois governor *right outside the jail* stormed the jail. They killed them in the jail: shot Joseph's brother Hyrum in the face, and another man 4 times. Joseph bolted for the window to draw their fire and was shot twice in the torso. He fell from the window, where he was shot additional times in the back while he crawled along the ground.
After Joseph died, a leader of the renegade militia attempted to decapitate him, but was stopped by a jail guard who came back.

Mormons weren't popular at the time because of their communal approach to property in Missouri, willingness to defend themselves after several massacres, and the failure of a bank in Ohio. The "freedom of the press" issue lit the fuse.

In the story of Abel and Cain, Cain killed his brother Abel. Thus, the cain spirit killed Joseph Smith. This means that the killers/ murderers today or in the past are spirited by the spirit of Cain. And that is their nature. THANK GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD.

He was asked to go to Carthage, IL for something(it had to do with going to court, but I'm not sure about what). So he decided to go instead of running. Before he left he told everyone that he would die (which came true).

Anyway, he got into Carthage, and he and the people who came with him were in a room up stairs, well 100-200 men stormed the building and killed 2 out of 4 people in the room...they were shooting through the walls, the floor, the door, etc....

It was horrible....

I dunno why they hated him, probably out of fear....

Ok...so no one knows the story of Joseph Smith? It was not because of a news paper (souly).

It was because Joseph was "disrupting the peace" by preaching the BoM and holding a baptism....

Joseph was about to be set free because the charges were un substantial for a crime(freedom of religion) and before the Governor released him the mob wouldn't allow it and killed him.

People should really know what they're talking about before spreading lies.

He was murdered by insecure Christians who somehow felt threatened by the 'new' religion (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) he had recently established.
