I have this um... "thing" on my rear end, I think it's some kind of cyst, and it's growing directly on my tailbone. It's excruciatingly painful to sit on, and it's slightly inflamed as well.
I'm sort of too shy to tell my parents, and I DEFFINATELY don't want to have a doctor look at it. (Too modest.)

Do you have any information on this kind of skin abnormality?
If so, is there any way that I can treat it myself?

It's very common to have a cyst on your tailbone and there's nothing embarrassing about it. It probably needs to be lanced and drained. I've known several people who've had to have that done. It's infected and you need to see a doctor. Believe me, they've had to do much worse things and you don't need to be embarrassed.

There is never a good substitute for professional advice.
Better to get over being embarrassed and take care of it.
Ignoring the problem won't fix the problem.
If you are in school then go see the school nurse.
She will be able to help you with this situation.

I don't mean to frighten you but the fact is that sometimes these cysts on tailbones are serious.

Better a little embarrassed now and well tomorrow.

Without knowing what exactly it is, nobody can give you real advice on how to treat whats wrong with you. I know its kind of embarrasing, but you need to talk to a doctor. They have heard and seen it all TRUST ME. Having a trusted adult look at it couldn't hurt either. Your parents love you, and honestly I doubt they will care, and will probably be happy you came to them.

I used to be like you. I still kind of am. I had a problem **ahem** "down there" and I dealt with it for weeks. I couldn't even talk to my mom about it. I am 25, and was too embarrased to tell anybody. Eventually it got REALLY bad, and finally I gave in and talked to my mom. She took me to the doctor ASAP, and it turned out I had a really bad kidney infection. The only real symptom I had was itching, and back pain, and I didn't think the two were related. I almost had to be hospitalized, I was that sick.

Now I don't think your problem is that serious, but you never know. Just bite the bullet. If you don't, then you will only have yourself to blame is something is wrong, and you do nothing about it, and get sick or something.

Sounds like a pilonidal cyst... My husband has one and it recently became inflamed... look it up on google... You definatly should go to the E.R. or Doctor soon because it will only get worse. Its like a type of Staff infection and it will get deeper so get it checked out.

Hey I found a good website for you, it is the Pilonidal Support Alliance. It was written just for YOU! Most of your questions will be answered there. You are going to make it, but you will have to see a dr. probably. Just realize that they see a dozen butts a day and yours will not stick in their memory.lol. I do understand, I hate showing my stuff too. But the pain needs to be relieved, for your peace of mind. Relief is worth more than embarassment.

That is heriditary my friends dad and brother both have those... there right you have to get it drained or it will explode... not to scare you but that pus will stink very badly and if it happens at school you will be covered in an insane amount of stinky, sticky pus from that cyst. Save yourself the embarresment and go tot the doctor. Good luck.

If you are unwilling to see a dr, and honestly I don't blame you, try these 2 things
see if there is any epson salt under the sink, soak in a warm bath with it as often as possible, if you don't see it and are able to shop on your own, you can get it at any drug store pretty cheap
and 2, try "drying" that area out as much as possible

if it doesn't clear up in about a week you are going to have to it check, you shouldn't let it go on too long

I think its a boil. I have 4 boils on me. It hurts like hell. I am in so much pain, i have to see the doc tomorrow coz he is closed.

Is there anything that I can do to avoid boils from appering and coming?

You can get this magnoplasm- it sucks the pus towards the skin and then the boil will drain itself. Trust me, it really helps you! It may hurt, but its only a little -because of the boil. This really really helps!

It's called a Pilonidal Cyst and needs to be lanced and drained or removed altogether. You will need to see a doctor.

It could be a boil. I've had one on my bum and i went and showed the doctor.

You're probly best off seeing the doctor now before it looks ten times worse.

It could be there due to pressure, like sitting basically.
But it does sound like a boil.
