My neighbors just lost their house and came back to pack everything and move it and they have no electricity and no food. They did not ask me for meals but I know they need it. Is it rude or would it be ok to ask people to bring in a meal or two? Thanks!
Tiana

As the husband of a Relief Society president, and having had numerous leadership callings of my own, I can tell you that Isolde is right.

I'd suggest that you go ahead and contact the bishop and Relief Society President. But also, why not do good works on your own? You could organize help without involving the Church. Of course you should talk to your neighbors first. Many people are proud and would not want to recieve charity.

The Bishop is responsible for the welfare of everyone in the ward, member or non-member. How he uses the resources of the Church and the members is at his discretion. He often has employment conseling and other services that are designed to include non-members.

Using the compassionate service person would be a choice of the RS President in consultation with the Bishop. You can certainly provide something on your own and bring it to the attention of those in charge to broaden the help.

Yes, they would help. You could even mention it to the Relief Society President, or the compassionate leader. The church is there to serve the community. The prophet is for the world, so is the church, why wouldn't service like this be for everyone too?

Go ahead an ask.

Tiana, I believe you should help people as God has taught us to do in his scriptures. May God bless them and you and your families as well.

Just be a friend and prepare them some food, I bet they would be so appreciative. Especially since they do not have any electricity of food. Poor things. I live in Hawaii, where do they live, maybe I can help. I'll drive over there and bring them some food. Really. I'm serious. I want to help.

Sorry going to break your rules as I am not LDS. However most churches are willing to help people regardless of religion. I would assume LDS would be the same. Jesus never asked a person's religion before helping them.

Probably. After all, the Church helped thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims, most of whom weren't LDS. It's good that you're looking out for them. Give it a try.

Absolutely you can. My mother is not a member, but she is ill and the sisters are bringing her meals and cleaning her house for her. That's what service is all about!

Why not? The Bishop is the Bishop of every person living within the ward boundaries. I am sure they would help if asked.

Sure! Go ahead, so many people would not mind at all! IF you lived in my area, I would!

EDIT:
Person above me, you don't know what you're talking about. Unless you are saying everyone in New Orleans after Katrina was investigating mormonism....

I would think it would be OK to help them. They do missions and if they helped only a minority of the people who are Mormons they would never grow as a church
