Because the Hebrew god is based on the original pantheon of Hebrew Gods in which the one portrayed in the Bible is male. In the original Hebrew pantheon, this God has a female wife God.

I don't even know if God exists. I wouldn't think of assuming God even had a gender, let alone what the gender was. However, I tend to refer to God as "he", simply because I am referring to the notion of God provided by nearly every existing religion. Why is that? Because these religions formed long ago, in male-dominated cultures. So it was assumed that an all-powerful being had to be a man. And this would lead any rational human being to conclude that religion is probably a product of human beings.

The Bible says that Man was made in His image, implying that God was, in fact, a male. Woman was made from a part of the male.
But the word image could also mean shape as in the form of the human body. You could look at it that way.
So, you have two theories here. I myself believe that if you actually talk to God in the afterlife, it will be like looking in the mirror, and the next person that speaks at God, God will look like that person, to him.
Well, anyhoo, that's my opinion.

The Jews describe God as "he" even though God is genderless, but some divine names and attributes are feminine. Same in Islam- the Quran does not just say "He" but also "We" (royal 'we') and "I" and some of the divine names, such as ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim, are grammatically feminine. It's the trinitarian understanding that probably leads to the idea of God being masculine while in other faiths God has no gender.

Both male and female are made in God's image. They share His communicable attributes. For example, man, (mankind- saying "man" in this context isnt sexist, gees), has dominion over all of creation.
That said, men and women have different roles. But I digress. When Christ came down from heaven, and took upon himself a human nature, he took upon himself a male body. Not a female body. So yeah, God is a "he".

Lol, William, whats your problem? Ever heard of Esther? Ever heard of Ruth? Ever heard of Hannah? Learn, than speak.

Lincoln, dunno what god ur reffereing to, but its definetly not the only true God. The true God worshipped as a she? Wasnt the true God they worshipping.
-------- edit -----------
Maverick, Christ took upon himself the nature of man, in a male's body. A male body. Not a female body. Well, God exists whether you believe it or not. The God of the Bible. He is real. Yes, I used the male gender there ^ ^

Well well well... it looks like all the feminatzis showed up to this question... Remeber, gotta be "PC", right?
No! God cant be male! that would be, heaven forbid, Sexist!
lol. I get a kick outa it every time.
Btw , it wouldnt make God sexist, people just only have this narrow minded perspective on things. lol. :)

Thousands of years before the Bible was written, God was worshiped as a She. I think that Religion controls God more than God controls Religion.

It's the closest we have to understanding His nature with our limited knowledge of Him. The Jews called Him neither a He nor a She. He was (merely) God. He had no gender. I just can't call Him an It. Too weird. He's not an It either. She would be better than It, but not as good as He.
Look, now you made me crazy. *rolls eyes*
I'm going to go pray now. Let's see....

We like to think of God as a "He" but God is pure spirit and therefore he doesn't have any of the two reproductive organs. God doesn't have a sex
