Last standing? Yes. It is really called the Western Wall, and it extends far beyond what you see on the surface. Do a search on the "Rabbi's Tunnel".

Toadaly - The Western Wall was not part of the Temple. The Temple WAS completely destroyed just as Jesus prophesied. The Western Wall was a retaining wall.

The pink line on the left in this layout is the location of the Western Wall in relationship to Herod's Temple. The temple location is, in my opinion, not accurate.

Nothing of Herod's actual Temple stands as far as I know. The wailing wall was a retaining wall around Temple Mount, not actually part of the Temple.

Adjacent to the Western wall, Muslim authorities in fact *are* digging in the same location of archaeological treasures of architecture, thereby damaging large portions of what is left of the temple's complex ancient security and water transportation systems.

Tradition holds that it is the last standing wall of the Jewish temple destroyed in 70 CE, but that seems unlikely, since the Jewish temple is recorded as having been completely destroyed.
