And I decide to take zofran (nausea medication that works in the brain to keep you from feeling nauseated- often given to cancer patients) to keep from tossing, will that cause a problem in the long run? Like if I had the flu and I used the zofran to keep me from getting sick. ( I am terrified of tossing, especially when I am alone in the house) Would there be any negative impact on the illness because I didn't void like my body obviously wants me to do?

If you think you may have food poisoning, then vomiting the offending food is the best, not having it go through your entire GI tract. If you have an illness that makes you feel nauseated,no matter what is in your stomach, then yes, I would take the Zofran. Zofran can cause constipation in some people, but if you are one of those people, you could always deal with that when you feel better.

Pretty much all drugs, legal or not, have long term side effects. Everything that you do to your body gets processed through your liver. It serves as a cleaner so to speak. Whatever you put in your body gets filtered through your liver creating wear and tear on it. Aspirin, cold medicines, vitamins, alcohol, it all wreaks havoc on you liver. A medication to keep you from tossing will indeed keep you from wearing out your esophagus( due to excess stomach acid exposure), but ultimately goes through your liver. If your body doesn't want something in it, it's going to expel it.
If you have the flu or a stomach virus, if it is bad, maybe you would want to ride it out. ALL drugs have drawbacks, don't take them unless they are absolutely needed!
If you have cancer and you are undergoing treatment, take the drugs that they give you to make you feel better!!! It's bad enough you have to go through it in the first place!
People now take something for this and that, medication is overused! If you are fighting for your life, take what makes you feel better! I saw my mother go through it all! They didn't have the meds they do now! You do what you have to to save your life and feel better!!!

Honey, these are questions you should be asking your doctor. Everyone on site is not capable of deciding for you.
First of all there is no mention of what illness, so you may not be able to take some meds. Call your doctor. Your body is very special, you need to love and respect it. I am sure he will be able to give you something that is safe. Praying for you.
