I am baffled with how anyone could feel comfortable enough to make incredibly derogatory and offensive comments about "God". There is absolutely no possible way to be 100% convinced from "evidence" that God does not exist (the same could be said of the converse). Even if you are 99% certain that he does not exist, why take the chance? Why not just reverently choose to live your life with the belief that God does not exist, but also choose not to take any more risks and chances than you need to? It would seem to me that if there was even an extremely slight chance that there actually is a God, a God who was at the very least smart enough to create the world, and who is in control of the afterlife (which is also impossible to prove for or against), than it would be so foolish that I as a reasonable person could not take seriously anyone who felt it was necessary to voice their opinion so strongly as to make offensive comments to and about an assumed non-existent God. Why bother?

I just did some research on Pascal's challenge. I did not realize that this was presented in such a formal manner. Turns out I agree with the concept and I'm not sure why it is dismissed with such disgust. I'm coming at this neutrally, you atheists really ban together here and attack anything that resembles belief in a God. Furthermore, I clearly did not identify any sort of religion associated with the belief in God. There is an obvious pack mentality with atheists as much as there is with Christians...and it appears that both can be so stuck in their beliefs that they refuse to respectfully acknowledge tough questions of faith.

Furthermore, why is the Christian belief in God the only way to not insult God? I'd never make derogatory remarks about any religion's gods, only to state a belief that I do not believe in them. This is different than making overtly offensive and derogatory comments about any such god.

Pascal's Wager. If God does exist, surely He won't be fooled by people pretending to be nice to Him. (drinks)

I'm not an atheist, actually, but I'm also not a fan of bad logic. Pascal's Wager is awful logic and has been dismissed as such, namely because his wager could apply to any god, belief system, or Santa Claus (maybe they're not real, but why take the chance? Believe in them all).

I just don't think God would hate and the only remarks I make if there is a God and I am talking about the God by Christian belief. I can't believe he would single out people he created and judge them to go to hell. I was raised Christian and only recently started making remarks about my God would not hate my 18 year old son who happens to be gay. I cannot believe in something that is evil and makes his followers judge what he has created it is just not right. Maybe he did this to see how many so called Christians would spread hate and start being God and judging. I would think that would be more dangerous to take over his job and turn him into a hating God instead of a loving one.

Someone's trying Pascal's Wager yet again... *sigh*

This has been refuted to death here on Yahoo! Answers, and I'm surprised anyone even uses it anymore.

There are so many things wrong with Pascal's Wager. First off, what makes you think that someone can change what they truly believe, as a matter of practice? Also, what if you die and you happen to face Zeus, or Odin, or Osiris? Indeed, the sheer number of potential deities renders such a wager futile. You'd be no better off trying to bet on a god, as it's likely you'd bet on the wrong god.

There's some other things, but I think I've covered the main weaknesses.

There is so much evidence that the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob is the True God and also about Jesus, but people are too lazy to check it out. People also can't be bothered to read the bible....the evidence is plain. Even ex-athiest lee Stroebel proved it to himself --that the Bible is true. And yes, those who bash God will suffer in eternal torment according to the Scriptures. When God makes a promise, He, unlike people, does not break it.

Why single out the Christian god? Are you equally as uncomfortable making derogatory remarks about other gods? After all, what if we're all wrong and some other religion is correct instead?

Good thinking--always nice to see!!! However, without diversity of expression, with what would you have to make your choices of what is true for YOU??? It all serves purpose.

And never worry about what "God" thinks of such things..."He" doesn't care one way or the other, because the grand purpose is to experience All of It.

Am I the first to toast Blaise Pascal?

You believe what you want, buddy - I'd go on, but I'm sacrificing a bull to Zeus. You will too, if you are wise - unless you like the idea of a lightning bolt going up your keister every 10 seconds for eternity.

UPDATE: WOW. You read about Pascal's Wager, and decided he was right. Wot can I say. There is no help for you. Have faith in Jesus, cos common sense sure ain't your friend.

Do you feel the same way about insulting the Tooth Fairy?

I am not 100% certain that your god does not exist, but I am as certain as I am about anything else that's completely ridiculous.

Well you see, it is because the devil has them blinded.
Their hearts have been hardened.

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good." Psalm 53:1

All I can say is, Lord have mercy on their souls!!

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Galatians 6:7

Hey bud I'm with ya! We'll fill the pews right up with this philosophy. {fun sarcasm}

God wants people to love him and live life. Not walk on eggshells. He also wants them to chose to love Him. Maybe we should testify His love not His wrath. God Bless!!
