You seem to be confusing Baking Powder with Yeast for Baking.

Baking Powder is a mixture of an acid powder and a base (alkali) powder. When this mixture is stirred into a liquid it generates carbon dioxide gas. This gas is what makes cakes, biscuits, etc. raise.

Yeast is a live culture. Yeast needs sugar or other carbohydrates and warmth in order to grow and multiply. As the yeast eats the sugar it gives off carbon dioxide gas. This gas is what makes cakes, biscuits, etc. raise.

It eats everything. Mix a little bit of baking powder with water and drop a penny into it. It will dissolve completely. This is dangerous stuff. Keep it away from the children.
