So, today at work I talked to a Christian coworker. He went on and on about how humans are naturally dirty aka sinful. "It's like a child who plays in the mud and touches everything. Everything we touch becomes dirty." I've been a Christian my whole life, and I never believed that. The guy actually said that is true Christianity beliefs.

I'm just tired of Christianity in general. It has such a bad history involving conversion or die tactics. And many Christians I've met just seem to want to condemn others to hell.

Christianity is the number one cause of atheism.

Atheism is a choice you should make after you study the various spiritual paradigms. Your experience with christianity has turned you off of organized faith, but does that mean that you are an atheist? Take the time to study...read some Dawkins, look at his source work, join a freethinking group.

It's good that you are thinking about this stuff, and with more research and exposure you may find you don't believe in God.

If some guy makes a blanket statement about the beliefs of 1.5 billion people in 39,000 denominations, do you accept it at face value?

I don't believe in original sin, but people are selfish and inconsiderate by nature. We are conditioned to care about our fellow man and the society in which we interact. Christians who think that they know who is going to Hell lack that conditioning and education. They do a disservice to the rest of us who actually study God's word and realize that only God knows who will be saved. A devout Christian studies God's word and doesn't make statements of condemnation.

There is nothing wrong with being an atheist. Heck, I was one for 11 years! However, I feel that you miss out on a lot of great stuff in this mortal life and beyond. Just think about running/studying in different Christian circles if you are surrounded by obnoxious ones rather than abandoning your faith.

Kind of puts a new perspective on things when a fellow Christian could possibly be judging YOU.... I can see why it'd turn ya off of the whole idea. I agree with the above, intellectual reasons and Carl Sagan, that's all you need to know.

I think all people want to know truth in general, but more specifically truth about life, also truth about morality. Most people want to know the truth about the hereafter. The fact that you talk about life also implies that you speak about death as well. To understand issues like these people turn to natural experience, philosophy, speculation and more. Christians do not condemn people to hell. They relate God's view that he has only one plan for resolving the issue that people choose wrong and choose it on purpose. God says all are sinners. If you have a problem with that you need to take it up with Him and not begrudge the messenger. God says that there is a hell. God says sinners end up in hell because they refuse to accept his sacrificial atonement for sin, Jesus Christ. Maybe He is speaking to you about it also, perhaps that is why you dont like to hear the message.

very true. I live in texas, it is the bible belt and hardcore conservative. I mentioned one time that I don't believe in god at work, and wow, it was non stop. Saying how can you believe that and trying to convert me. It is really annoying. I wish more people would be atheist, the world would be a much better place.

That idea sucks. I dare anybody to tell me to my face that my baby is a dirty sinner, sprung from a dirty, sinning mother. To them, I would say, "**** you!" That's a revolting thing to say to anyone.

Why don't you become a secular thinker and just "ponder" life for a while until you get a better idea what you do and don't believe most comfortably?

Christians believe you are born 'tainted.' Only by the grace of God can you be saved. You were made from dust, the lowest of the low. But, however, everything is created with you in mind....for you.

I, however, believe that people are born....well....PEOPLE! That's all...we're not spiritually above anything, and we're not born tainted, already with an uphill battle to fight before we can even speak!

It kinda messes with your self-worth, doesn't it? You're made from dust, but the universe was created for you.

And yes, religion is the #1 cause of atheism.

There's nothing wrong with it, but I suggest doing it for intellectual rather than emotional reasons. Start by reading Carl Sagan's timeless classic "The Demon Haunted World", and go from there.
