Well....if you don't mind a dog pooping in your house, then I guess you can do whatever you want.

"just bought her and already she's completed #s 1 and a couple of a couple of times in simply a few days" well of path! She's a puppy. She doesn't understand that she has to go external. It is something typical that they feel they may be able to do at any place. Crate training is definately the way to go. I realize it's cold, however you should have inspiration about this earlier than getting a dog. They take a lot of work! At 8 weeks she will be able to preserve it for 3 hours, so take her out as a minimum every 3 hours. Yes for the period of the night, too. Set your alarm and take her out every three hours. Your puppy... Your accountability. She should now not be crated even as you might be residence unless she hasn't gone potty otherwise you can't watch her. A puppy deserves play time and concentration. She will earn it by means of going potty external whilst you take her. Crate her while you are long past and drowsing for certain, though. Research crate coaching. It can be a savior! Stay consistant! Use treats. Grasp bells on the door, and have her ring them whilst you take her out. Soon she'll study to ring the bells when she wants to move out. Potty coaching takes time and endurance. Excellent luck.

Train the dog! I don't care if you live in Alaska. I would bet other people in your area have dogs, and winter is only three months right? It sounds like you might a little lazy in taking the dog out. Also the dog needs to be walked.
The paper training might be a good back-up. But as the dog gets older the mess and smell will be worse. And he might stop using the paper, then you are in trouble.
And what if you have to leave the dog with someone else if you are out of town.

Yes - If you're willing 2 clean up dog crap 3 times a day every day 4 the rest of your dog's life . This is how we trained our dogs: pick a word that you want your dog 2 respond 2(ours respond 2 potty ) when he needs 2 go out.Take the time U would usually use 2 change newspaper ,tell him where you're going(let's go potty, etc),take him outside & repeatedly tell him 2 go potty .When he does, reward him w/ a treat or just praise him. Whenever he goes potty inside scold him harshly (there's nothing a dogs hates more than being scolded).Keep this up & your dog will be potty train in no time.

It sounds like you should litterbox train him. It's a good solution for small, stay-at-home dogs because they can go whenever they want. Make sure you buy a big enough pan and dog litter (not cat litter) to go in it. They sell both of these things at Petco and PetSmart; a small bag of litter will cost you $10-$12 and last 2-3 weeks, a big bag will cost $15-$20 and last you 4-6 weeks.

Purina makes a brand of dog litter and has a pretty good, informative website about litterbox training your dog:

go to Walmart, get those bedliners they have for bedwetters, they are cheaper than the piddlepads they make for dogs, and better absorbent.

As to that, depending on how big he gets, this could be a good thing, or a bad thing.

My chihuahuas are piddlepad trained. I've not seen a chihuahua yet that would potty outside in the middle of winter! Mine are no exception, and this way, as you said, if I'm out, and they gotta go, they can!

I live in Alaska & we have 8 dogs, from mastiffs down to 6 month old pugs. There is NO way I would allow ANY dog to poop & pee in my house becuase I was too lazy to teach it to potty outside. That is disgusting!!!
The cold will NOT hurt the dog, they aren't out there that long. Housebreak that thing!!!! That is gross & really unhygenic.

My pastor's dog is trained to go on puppy pads inside. The newspaper is fine I suppose, but puppy pads really cut down on the odor and are a little easier to clean up.

Some people do this if they live in apartments in cities and have very small dogs. It is certainly up to you but this will end up being a permanent arrangement as he will be really confused by having to go outside especially as inside is warm, cozy and really convenient.

They do make pee pads and someone uses them because most people I know have dogs that have never and will never use them.

Here's an idea that my ex-mother-in-law did with her little Yorkie. She got little diapers (they make them for female dogs to wear when they are in heat) and she cut up kotex pads to fit inside, and that's what her little dog used. That little anklebiter (sorry, loved that little dog, but that's all she did was bite at your ankes, lol) never went outside except to go to the vet and to be buried. The house didn't stink anymore than a normal farmhouse, and the dog was happy.

you know you might want to look into a dog litter box(yes they make em) Google it or you can search it on PetEdge.com they are a great & very affordable site for all kinds of pets supplies......they also sell them & Petsmart & the like also the litter....I think it would be better than allowing the waste to soak thru onto your floor & possibly damaging it if by chance you didnt get to clean it up before it soaked thru....best of luck. Im not sure how to train them to use a littel box but I would assume its alot like training them to go outside or on the paper.....when they go where you dont want them to tell them no & put them where they are suppossed to be along w their waste. You might want to try putting the newspapers in teh littel box for a bit too untill he gets the idea....this may also keep the smell down even before you have cleaned up his mess...BEST OF LUCK
