they would be utilized before, during and after exercise as they never go to waste in the active athletic individual. the more active a person is the greater demand there is for nutrients and the utilization of those nutrients is increased as well.

amino acid supplementation is a good way to increase the amounts of nutrients ingested with out really adding calories. the positive effects are typically dose dependent.

Having Amino acids pervents the break down of muscle tissue for the purpose of energy. Having them in the body full stop is best.
The best idea is to sip during but if you prefer water i would recommend drinking them after exercise

Probably both, but before is probably more important since amino acids make proteins, and muscle consists of proteins, and you want all your muscle when you are exercising or competing.
