**Do you think tattoos could ever be considered elegant?
**Why does our society have such a strange mindset to successful, down-to-earth women having tattoos? As if they should be embarrased, or cover them up?
**Is there such thing as a "classy/elegant tattoo"?

Tattoos are beautiful but it depends on who you ask. I've loved them forever!!! Only recently got one. I see nothing wrong with them and I could care even less about ppl who do.

If society would stop judging others by their actions the world could be a MUCH MUCH nicer place to live in!

Two each is their own!

If you dont like something dont do it!

There are many forms of elegance. A bulldozer does not seem like an elegant device, but it does serve its purpose without any uneeded frills. It is elegant in its simplicity.

If you mean elegant like a ball gown, yes tattoos can be that. They can (and should) fit with the wearer's body and acentuate it just like a gown. They can also be just as beautiful and intricate, or striking in their clean lines.

If we are speaking of elegant like a bulldozer in expressing the personality and interests of the wearer, all tattoos should be elegant like this. Some tattoos may miss the mark, but ideally a tattoo is an intimate expression, and few things get this point across like permanently embedding an image into your skin.

Society chooses to fear what it does not understand. The average person does not understand how someone can have such a deep commitment to an idea or image that they would want to wear it forever. They do not understand why we would undergo discomfort to acheive this result, when most folks find the idea of being stuck with something terrifying. Rather than learning about why tattoos are recieved, society has elected to make people miserable for having them in the hopes that the art will go away. Fortunately this approach isnt working, and as we grow in numbers it is getting harder and harder for people to remain uneducated on the subject.

A tattoo does not have to be classy to be elegant. A woman on a power drill elegantly expresses it's wearer's sense of humor. A little set of flowers on a collar bone may be elegant in the same way, just a little more subtle and much more likely to be filed under "classy"

i have never thought that tattoos couldn't be classy or elegant. i have a full back tattoo and love to dress up and go out on the town, it's gorgeous and i always get compliments.
not to say that ALL tattoos can look elegant and classy, and the attitude of the person sporting the tattoos also has great bearing on how they are viewed by others.

mindsets are not easily changed. for a very long time tattoos were only had by a rough crowd and some people won't ever see them any other way. SLOWLY things are changing so it's just a waiting game for those of us who are normal people who have tattoos and are tired of being stereotyped about tattoos.

I doubt they will ever be considered elegant because too many people just equate them with being low class. As far as I am concerned that's their problem. A successfulk woman or for that matter any woman can get a tattoo if they want. The only thing I would say is make sure your artist is good. If it's going to be on your skin for the long run you want it to be nice. My advice though would be to have it in a spot where you can cover it when you go to work. There are bosses that are turned off by tattoosand subsequently that can hurt you at work. After work show them off all you want.

1) No not really. Not sure why but I associate pearls or ball gowns with elegance not tattoos
2) It's not just women. Men also have to cover up their tattoos in work places. Tattoos are not considered professional. Just like Leather vests and big jewelry and bright nail polish. It's just not professional.
3)Hmmm... maybe. It depends on the design and wear the tattoo would be put.

Let's think about it, if tattoos would not look great/elegant/classy on some people (of course this depends on many factors such as the tattoo design, the body of the person, the body location, etc...) we would not have people on this forum slagging about tattoos when in theory they don't care about them and they consider tattoos as as tacky thing to have??? Sorry but I don't understand it, I don't log in forums to talk badly about things I don't like or don't agree with.
So to answer your question, go with your feelings! ;-)

i have 4 tattoos and cover all of them up for work and the such, my tattoos are for me and no one else, am not bothered if people see them and will explain what each one represents if people ask but they are basically just for me and i dont care what people think. Each persons views on tattoos are different either about having a tattoo or how a tattoo look, i know that i dont like tattoos on womens arms but i wouldnt judge someone if they had one there, i just personally dont like them there but that is just my opinion.

im tired out societys 1950s outlook on tattoos. i dont think we should have to cover them up at all if you like it. now dont get me wrong if you get like skulls and blood all over your forearm that in no way shape or form is going to be elegant. i do belive however based on design a tattoo can be elegant.

yes :)
because most people in society were around pre-tattoo, and when tattoos first came out and only rebels, bikies, goths and outcasts got them. theres still a stigma that tattoos represent rebellion against the system.
yes, i think most tattoo designs these days are beautiful. it seems we've gotten over the dolphin and the pinup girl, and people are using tattoos as a means of self expression. my favourite example is a set of tattooed wedding rings on a married couple. aaaawwww

so my sister has her sons name on the top of her wrist. its in a nice script writing and not too big. she works in an upscale apparel shop and most of her shoppers love it. they think it is a very elegant tattoo(which is what they say). and never stop raving about it. she has clients of all ages starting in mid 20s to late 70s!
