Blocks, toy telephone, books (the vinyl bath ones are nice because they can chew on them), a ball (my daughter loves her big bouncy ball and it only cost $2), toy remote control, nesting/stacking cups

anything that makes sounds and lights up they will love. toy phone, they have so many choices to chose from just go to toys r us or walmart and look in the toy section, every child develops differently so i dont want to suggest something that they already surpassed, or that is to challenging for them. books are good, probably cardboard books ones that the pages wont tear to easily, also look in the baby department of walmart, they have some nice toys for kids that age, i got my son a leap frog alphabet thing, and a lap top from vtech it has a lot of sounds and music and lights on it, and is under 20.00 where i live it was like 14.00 i think it may be different prices in other places. Best of luck to you!

Books are always a good idea, especially Christmas books. There are lots of little noise making, educationaly toys that kids that age LOVE!! Many of these are under $15. My son just turned 1 and he still loves things like this. Good Luck!

At that age toys do not need to be gender specific. 8-9 months old. try books, anything with buttons that make noise, a t.v. remote, phone, anything small that does not require a lot of storage space and can be easily taken along for the day.

get something for the mother. she'd appreciate it more, and actually remember and comprehend *getting* a gift..... that is assuming she doesn't get offended at you "forgetting her precyious schnookums!"

something sensible like clothes - second hand stuff can look brand new, since babies grow so fast - books or other learning aids (NOT toys with batteries) are good gifts if you really want to get the kids something.
