More megapixels does not always equate to image quality. The size of the sensor plays an important role. Cramming more megapixels into a small sensor may cause excessive digital noise at relatively low ISO settings such as ISO 400.

That depends. Usually the more the better but you won't notice a difference between a 5 and a 7 mega pixel camera. Every 4 mega pixels if I remember correctly you can notice a difference. But I seen pictures taken with a older digital camera and that wasn't even a 1 mega pixel camera and they looked great. I mean real old like it used a floppy disk to store pictures.

It's all in the lens.

You could have a 7 mega pixel with a crappy lens thats bad
or a lower mega pixel camera with a very good lens that takes better pictures.

I have on of those old 1 mega pixel cameras that takes a floppy disk for memory. If you stick to snapshot size I defy you to tell the difference. But, enlarge it to an 8 x 10 you start to see the flaws in the picture.

Having more megapixels just means you can have larger pictures with higher resolution.. meaning, photos won't be pixelated. But the megapix is not the only thing to consider when purchasing a camera. You also have to check the features. It really depends on what you'll use the camera for.. I mean, is it for professional use? Or just to take photos of yourself with friends and family? Go to a camera store, and make sure the guy orients you on the features of each camera you're eyeing. Don't merely rely on the megapix count.

Yes it means that the pictures will have much more detail than one with fewer mega pixels. The photo will be sharper when you blow it up!

It mostly means more noise...
Why should you need more than 5 mp ?
5 mp are already more than enough for an excellent 12"x18" print !
A good 5 mp will be far better than a medium 7 mp...

It means you can get larger pictures at a higher resolution.

Yes, 7 is substantially better than 5.

If you blow it up, yes. But just because it is 2 more megapixels doesnt mean anything. The clearness of the picture mainly comes from the lens, where the pic sees through.

Hope I helped!

i don't think so. I'd take a 5 mp canon over a 7 mp kodak any day of the week.
