I was at the gas station the other day, waiting for my mother to get finished paying. While waiting I saw two women drive up. One was sitting in the front seat smoking. I then noticed a tiny little baby, couldnt be older then a few months old. I was just completly disgusted and wanted to go smack the women. Obviously I didnt but it just broke my heart. An innocent little baby sitting there breating second hand smoke, a type which has been sugested to be worse then smoking itself.

So I raise the question. As a few cities across the U.S have tried to make it illegal. Do you think it should be illegal to smoke with a child in the backseat? As well as what do you think of it.

To me it's the same as abuse.

I think it's horribly selfish and I totally agree with you. It's child neglect, and should be made illegal.

I'm not saying I disagree with everyone, but the person who said that smoking should be illegal PERIOD and the kids should be taken is an absolute nutcase. This is another perfect example of society believing everything the Govt tells them. Has anyone here even READ the Surgeon General report on second hand smoke? Of course not! Why? Because it's impossible to read! It's a 500 page document with more goobley **** than any normal person could even understand.

Ponder this for yucks......if second hand smoke is so bad then why is the population continuing to increase when up until about 30 years ago almost EVERYONE smoked? Why aren't we all riddled with disease from our parents and grandparents smoke?

Again, because they're children it's not worth the risk, but some of you go WAY to far.

Smoking with children(and other adults as well) in the backseat or anywhere near them is like killing them slowly. The more it becomes worse when one smokes inside the house even if the kids are not around because smoke stays upfloat even if we can't see it. So many have tried to ban and make smoking illegal. Some have been successful but the problem lies on the people who refuse to follow the law. Makers of cigars/cigarettes are on top of the list and it's really ironic that they put on their ads and cigarette boxes this warning:CIGARETTE SMOKING IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH. Read between the lines and it says: SMOKE SO IT WILL KILL YOU AND OTHERS AS WELL.

It should be illegal, it causes children to develope lung cancer, bad allergies, learning disabilities. Just because a child is out of the womb doesn't mean that they're not still developing...Second hand smoke is absolutely disgusting for children or anyone to be subjected to. That's the one thing I hate, non-smokers have the choice to move away from smoking areas...what about kids? Especially the ones that can't walk yet!

It's unfortunate that people don't have the brains to see that the health and well being of the children aren't a priority over their cancer-craving habit.

Yup, it's abuse.
Sad thing is, people are stupid to begin smoking to begin with. Let's see... Hmmmm, cancer, emphysema, that sounds really yummy. And while I'm at it, I can share it with my children.

Ick.

They need to be given a tour of a morgue and shown a corpse of someone who died of lung cancer or emphysema.
When they themselves die, hopefully the kids will have a parent who doesn't smoke and can start living in a cleaner environment.

As for Scully's response, oh my, she/he is an idiot.

Oh... and I just realized. It was at a gas station. I'd have gone over to them and told them not to be smoking, since it's illegal to do at a gas station. Not only were they risking the life of a baby with the smoking to begin with, they were risking the lives of everyone there. A spark will ignite... and BAM.

I think that if you have a child who can't speak up for themselves you should be smoking outside. Not inside your car. I can definitely understand being upset about seeing that, I see it all the time where I'm at and it disgusts me too. If you have children and you love them then why are you putting them at risk for developing lung problems when older? It's one thing to smoke but to put others at risk is just wrong. I think it should be illegal to smoke anywhere there are children whether it's in the home, in the car, restaraunt, etc..........

Totally agree with most all of you on this topic. Smoking is so bad for not only the stupid person doing it but for anyone within breathing of them.
People who smoke see nothing wrong with it. Like it's not going to reach the kids in the backseat.... get a life !

If you want to destroy a life... Make it your own ! Stop taking it out on precious kids !

i wish the word was more spread that even just being in a house that someone smokes in raises the chances of a child dying of sids.

its sick what some people do. i saw some like..15 year old girl with a baby walking down the street carrying it in one hand and smoking in the other and the baby couldn't be more than a few weeks old.

There are a few provinces in Canada that recently have enforced that, which I think is great!
Buuut I wonder how can a police officer see that driving down the highway, or a road?? Most baby seats are not visible while driving by. Usually only in a situation like you had...while parked.
Older kids are could be seen but it's the babies that concern me more, with their tiny lungs and all!
I just wonder how they will go about enforcing it...

That is just selfish!!!! I have seen that before and I think to myself MY GOD DON'T THEY KNOW THE EFFECTS OF SECOND HAND SMOKE!!!!

I did that once light up with my kid in the back seat and as soon as i took a puff a wave of guilt came over me and I NEVER EVER DID IT AGAIN!!!!

I am trying to stop smoking I went to my doctor and was given a Rx to help...I should inform everybody I don't smoke at home I only smoke at work!!! I use to smoke outside but the smell on my clothes got to be annoying and I did not want my kids to smell the smoke!!!

I'm 100% against public smoking...
And for a baby to have to deal with that...
is just.. sick!
It's sad that a baby or any kid would have to deal with second hand smoking....

My grandma would always smoke in the car when I was younger .... and I HATED it... :/

I hope the make illegal for smoking in public or with a child in the backseat...
