i want to join the marines, but my major is in cinematogpraphy? is there room for this in the millatary i have been told both yes and no

while there are combat photographers in the Marines, the chances of you actually GETTING that job are probably slim. In fact it may not even be open to initial enlistees.

I can promise you that the MC rating in the Navy is full to bursting and you will have almost ZERO chance of getting that at all,let alone the NEC that corresponds to the old PH rating.

YES. You can enlist with many specialties where you will surely use your major. Some of these specialties include Public Affairs, Visual Information, Signals Intelligence-Ground Electronic Warfare, etc. I would do more research to find a job within the Marines best suits you. Remember, you have a choice to enlist in the Enlisted Ranks or Officer Ranks.

If you are determined to be a "jar head" be my guest. Anyone who volunteers for the military in this day and age has to be a couple of french fries short of a McDonald's Happy Meal. You can apply for duty in a PIO (Public Information Office) detachment but good luck getting in. Once you enlist, unless you have a guaranteed contract, you'll be assigned wherever the military wants your butt to go.

uhhhh marines are more of a combat thing. film isnt one of their jobs. the job of a marine is to....kill. your best bet for something like your major is to join the air force.
