Massive response. Wonderful. Hey people, I lived through Viet Nam and it wasn't nearly as stupid as what we are doing in Iraq. Viet Nam was political. Iraq is religion and nobody wins.

Consider this, a fact that Bush ignored. Sadam was a Suni. He was a moderation factor in the region. When we took him out, the Shiites gained power but the Sunis are doing their Islamic thing as they have been since the death of Muhamad. We disrupted the natural course of events in the region and allowed the Shiites to gain power. Iran is Shiite. We blew it big-time. The end result of our medling is Iraq will eventually be a puppet state of Iran.

It is not a war.
United States consider themselves as an International Police.
Police type of activity with military help, jointly with UK.
Iraq was an independent nation.
Saddam Hussein could have been a dictator.
He had not harmed the US.
Why should there be a war waged against Iraq by US,
when neighbouring Muslim countries did not bother much.
It is an avarice of the US Govt to grab the oil resources
in Iraq.
I don't think there would be any end of this war.
Vietnam is different. When the US troops withdrew, the
people got united. Because the religion and the culture
was unanimous.
But in Iraq, the people belong to different ethnic groups.
I don't think they will ever get united.
Peaceful living is doubtful.

I can't believe all the inane, ill informed and uneducated responses to this simple question.

Oil? We did this for oil? So where is all this wonderful oil that we gained from this? We've defeated the Iraqis. Are we pulling out tanker after tanker of Iraqi crude and sending it to the US? I suppose that's why gas prices are still well over $2 a gallon. Some oil gain that was.

We could win if we drop the bomb? I can't even begin to address that stupid answer.

There is nothing to win here. The best we can do is break even. We are trying to establish a nation with a representative government that follows their own constitution and can provide their own security and stability. Doing so will also help stabilize the entire Mideast. We gan nothing from doing this except maybe another ally in the region.

Yes. I could like an finish to the warfare that we will appear again on and say we did the well for Iraq with as little mess and price as we might. I desire to appear again and say we have been effective and strong, BUT, I consider it's too overdue now. I do not see how that may occur, and I do not see the way it can support us within the broader photo any further than pulling out could, even supposing that did occur. I simply do not consider it is viable.

No way, there is nothing to win, as a matter of fact, the ruling actual party are Iran´s Friends. the minute USA troops leave, then it will really be a mess, Bush father was wiser, In Desert storm we could have taken the whole country, but he knew that was better lo leave Saddam in power as an stabilizer in the region, this Bush did not think the ways of Arabs or Persian (Iranians) so, he made a big boo boo, a costly one, we already lost, the dollar is going down, the Euro is taking the spoils.......We are going the way of the Roman Empire

until the civil war in Iraqi is under control we are wasting our time being there. Shiite's and Sunni's have been having problems living together since 600 AD , the odds of this changing in the next couple of months or years is slim to none

So what if the violence is down in Baghdad it's not "Iraqi", it's only a very small part of the country. the Iraqi military is no closer today to being able to police and secure their own country then they were when the war started 4+ years ago.

Gosh, yes. Are you kidding? It's already decided.

I am amazed, and of course concerned, about the kind of idiocy that is now considered normal in the American media. It's just silly. I have always thought that if Americans wanted to avoid a war, they should take to the streets and protest in favor of it. You'd never have one - the intended opponent would be scared half to death. And frankly, why couldn't you figure that out?

The key to being out of there in 5 years is for us all to agree that we're willing to stay for 1000 years, and the more violence there is, the more people we plan to send, and the longer we plan to stay. Why is that hard to figure out?

Here's some homework for 90% of Americans: Turn off the TV. First, find out how long we occupied Germany and Japan after WWII. Do it.

Also, determine whether you think the nation-building and/or peace after WWII in Germany and Japan was successful. Read a book on it if you have to.

Learn to think for yourself.

P.S. - TV News is not a public service. Its purpose is to expose you to commercials for potato chips.

we have no business over there. sad to think that alot of people think that iraq was behind 9/11...i mean 9/11 happened then we looked for osama for what, a week? then we went and kicked iraq in the head. my dog bit me so i'm gonna go kick my cat? what an idiot bush is.....oh ya, osama is still out there... what are we doing? fighting iraq....for what? i have no freaking idea..oil is my guess...
i'm beginning to think that 9/11 just might have been an inside job. ...crazy as it sounds. our govt. doesn't seem to be too worried about it. kinda seems like it's all been swept under the rug. kinda makes me sick to live in a country that operates in this manner.

I don't think America can win the war. America never won any war. I don't know why everybody admire American army and navy. I don't think this is most power full army.
As you sad no one should be messing with this region. Muslims are living the life as is written in the book, at least they think they are.
Bush should live them alone. He made mess and now he can not clean it up.

It's no longer about -winning-. 'Winning' is undefined. Nobody who favors the war can even explain what they mean by 'winning' anymore. There aren't even agreed-upon objectives to be achieved.

What it's about now is not admitting that Bush was wrong. They insist we're making 'progress' (though that also is undefined) in hopes that Bush can keep the war going long enough for either Congress or the next president to take it out of his hands. Then Bush and the Republicans can blame the Democratic Congress or the Democratic next president for 'losing Iraq'.

Maybe, it depends on how victory is defined. (Listen to *me*, sounding so Newspeak :D ) It sounds like a copout, and it is. A traditional victory? Not without a draft. A successful puppet client state? Sure, that's still totally possible.

But whatever the outcome, the people who suffer the most are the Iraqi citizenry. :(
