It seems that when an unsolved question is up for vote, the Christians and the Atheists tie up the vote on their top two answers, and whenever the question unsolved is in another religious group, the Christians sometimes even try to quote Holy Bible verses to a non-Christian questioner (examples are Buddhists and Islamics, who have posted in the past and had Christian answerers trying to show their Biblical knowledge). I am a firm believer that if someone doesn't believe the same as I do, that's their priviledge, and I wouldn't want to force any belief on someone else because I wouldn't want them to do that to me (sorry to use the Golden Rule). Why make references to a book which the questioner may not have to verify? 'Because the synoptic Gospels say so' doesn't answer if the questioner is either unaware of what a 'Gospel' is, or if they believe differently. All responses are welcome, as long as you abide by the community guidelines, which are available by link on the main page.

J H - you should probably step off of your soapbox. My question has been asked without reference to whether I am Christian or not. My reference to 'Christians answer non-Chiristian questions by quoting from the Bible' (paraphrased) is exactly as it was meant. I appreciate everyone's answers, and will be selecting the best answer after reviewing them.

If you thought that everyone who didn't admit thier sin and inability to exist in the the presence of a Holy God apart from Jesus Christ, was going to Hell unless they recieved the Gospel; would you not try to tell them?

I know what you're talking about. As a person who respects the idea of the bible yet doesn't believe it is the infallible word of God, I've often had ppl quote scriptures at me. However, when they quote them (and most I already know as I was fundamentalist Christian for over 20 years) they mean nothing to me in the sense that since I believe the bible to be written by the hands of man, they don't hold the same impact.
The difficulty arises when Christians (or any religion that tries to convert) fail to realize that there are other religions that also have religious and holy text. That's always what annoys me the most. They'll say that their book is the way, their book is right. But why is it right? What makes it more right than another religions book? If they were both written by men hundreds upon hundreds of years ago, how can one argue that theirs MUST be the one and only right book? Belief and faith is the only thing that ties a person to their particular text, and yet each religion has faith and belief in their text. So.... what makes the bible any more correct than any of the others?

ok, not sure what you want to hear or see here but let me try to explain a few basics..... A Christians response should be based in the Biblical Scripture, Word of God, that is our authority... as you say, some may not have, not know about the Bible, and to me that is a shame, but I digress... We, Christians have also had our questions answered by others, in ways we do NOT understand nor agree with.... We have directed questions to Christians, and we get smart aleck answers like * free country, do not tell me not to answer*, such as that..... sound fair ??? Point 2- It is our commision to spread the Word, that is our most important job here on earth.... I will not apologise for this... no matter what answer is given, it is never or very seldom ,enough, even tho the question is directed towards us or about our Heavenly Father/God...... Why ask a Biblical question if you or anyone does not want a Biblical answer ?? makes NO sense.... Yes, people are FREE to believe however they wish, but YOU along with many others have purposely put the blame on Christians, and by your wording here you are also doing just what you are accusing us of doing.... NO ??? re-read this total question/statement...... We quote the Bible... What would you and others have us to do ?? Quote Hitler ? Stalin ? You ? Most are NOT trying to convert, simply stating *truth* as we, as Christians, see and know it !! If we do not, we are found as pagans and will stand before God, and will be told, * Depart, for I know not you*.... I stand just as firm on my faith as others stand on what ever they do.... that simple.... go in peace....... God bless

I back up my answers with bible verses. I don't try to convert - only God can do that. I merely share the gospel with others and make my point in response to the person's question - that's all. If they ask a question in regard to the bible, I back up my answer with the bible. If the person chooses not to believe it, then that's their choice. Only God can convert and open the heart and mind of a person so they will have understanding and knowledge of His word. I cannot do that. As a Christian, I do what God wants me to do, which is to spread the gospel. Christians know that they cannot change a person's heart or mind - only God can do that. I merely just share the gospel with others - I don't force it on them.

I've noticed that myself and yes it also used to bother me that certain Christians ( I'm not blaming all since I am friends with a Christian and know some great Christians ) in R&S call you a sinner and other bs because you don't believe in God and I believe most of them thumb down us all in R&S.
Anyway, I've learnt to ignore it and just tell myself that people like that are ignorant and need to educate themselves to be more open-minded about others beliefs and their religions.

Your questions is not framed in a way that it can be answered well.
Christians share about the Bible because that is the resource they have to base their answers upon.
Atheist do the same. Mostly by calling anyone that doesn't agree with their view point an idiot.
So your question would very likely be better asked "Why do people here think they have all the answers?"
Just my take

Have you ever read the Principia Discordia? Did you know that God is crazy and he is really a woman? Did you know that the true answers to everything were entrusted to the faithful on golden bar napkins and then taken back up to heaven before anyone could ever see them to prove it? I get a free toaster if I convert three more. Hail Eris!!

This is because the Christians in question feel that by trying to convert people here they are following the instructions of Jesus to "make disciples of all nations". Unfortunately, this many times is also taken to mean "ignore it when someone does not want to hear it"

This is Answers, not your personal diary to plot your feelings and rants as you wish. Do you have a question that isn't rhetorical? Or are you just here to pick on christians alone, and, even though many other people from different faiths do the very same things you mentioned, and they do it to christians, and yet you said nothing about them. You chose to single out the christians. That's called bigotry.
