This is a no brainer for me. Diet soft drinks are loaded with excitotoxins and any school district that chooses to have it's students subjected to these toxins and it obvious effects on the brain should be sued for child abuse!

Aspartame promotes grand mal seizures, say health experts
A nursing infant developed convulsions after his mother drank an aspartame-sweetened soft drink. A 19-year-old woman went into grand mal convulsions within minutes of chewing a piece of aspartame-flavored gum. A small amount of toxin can push the human body into near-fatal conditions, regardless of whether...

Aspartame consumption strongly associated with migraines and seizures
You can't walk into a convenience store, grocery store or restaurant without being offered a dose of aspartame. You can't buy a stick of gum or a box of mints without having to read the label like a hawk, because it's not always obvious that a product contains aspartame. Restaurant condiment caddies...

New Mexico activists hope to achieve an unprecedented ban on aspartame
New Mexico may become the first state in the nation to enact an official statewide ban on the artificial sweetener aspartame, if a group of determined activists has its way. Activists there are fighting hard to ban the sale of any and all products containing the chemical sweetener, and they achieved...

Aspartame Might Be More Sour Than Sweet

HOUSTON, 11:28 p.m. CST November 27, 2000 -
Do you love diet soda or hot chocolate? What
about fat-free yogurt or sugar-free gelatin?

While those products might taste good and be less filling -- in the
calorie department -- one M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
neurologist is warning that some of them may not be good for you.

Why?

Because among the dozens of ingredients in these products is one
called aspartame.

No! No! No! - The problem is that aspartame (NutraSweet) can be very dangerous for some people. This is a chemical substance that, in my opinion is far more dangerous than sugar. Did you know that aspartame, once it is worked through the bloodstream changes chemically and resembles something closer to formaldehyde than sugar? How this can be good for you is beyond me.

Soda pop isn't the best thing for anyone, with or without sugar. I'd rather see a machine that dispenses energy drinks or bottled water if the health police insist on keeping you all away from sugar. Whoever it was that dreamed up the diet soda idea to keep you healthy needs to be better educated on the the dangers of artificial sweeteners.

You're a teen and you are smart enough to know just from looking at the selection that it's not a good idea. Good for you!

IMO schools shouldn't have vending machines with soda. but if they are they should only be available after school. no one needs to start the day off with soda, it has nothing but a negative effect on the endocrine system

the diet only soda is a good idea but that's exactly why it would never work. common sense isn't used much today in our society, high profits for big business at the expense of American citizens is now the "American Way"

School food if not healthy. I kinda stoped eating it and lost almost 10 pounds. I think they should only carry water and natural fruit juice in the vending machines. As long as kids dont complain, it will alway be their

I agree. Soda machines should be removed from schools completely since people don't know how to limit themselves.

they either need to be removed, or they need to educate students to make the right choice (i.e. drink soda in moderation). the latter is my preferred choice. diet soda is just as bad as regular soda in my opinion.

for crying out loud, you are in high school...you know that soda is bad.
