The laughing gas (nitrous oxide) won't get rid of the pain, but it will help you to relax about it. Have them give you the gas before you get the shot. It shouldn't cost any extra for the gas, but it wouldn't hurt to ask if it's extra. Some dentists even give you gas just to get your teeth cleaned these days. Another thing you might try is have your dentist just numb the one tooth without numbing the entire side of your face. The numbing won't be as much, and there won't be as much needles, but from your description your dentist might insist on giving you the full numbing. Hopefully you haven't waited so long that they'll have to pull your tooth. Go as soon as possible to the dentist. Delaying the experience won't make it go away. You might as well get it over with.
