PDF
Short for Portable Document Format, a file format developed by Adobe Systems. PDF captures formatting information from a variety of desktop publishing applications, making it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient's monitor or printer as they were intended. To view a file in Error! Hyperlink reference not valid., you need Adobe Reader, a free application distributed by Adobe Systems.

Note: I use it to send files to people who do not have the same software as I. Think of it as a picture of a document as it will look when printed. The recipient can read the PDF, but cannot edit it unless it is converted to another format such as Word.
Portable Document Format
PDF is also an abbreviation for the Netware Printer Definition File.
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format that has captured all the elements of a printed document as an electronic image that you can view, navigate, print, or forward to someone else. PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, or similar products. To view and use the files, you need the free Acrobat Reader, which you can easily download. Once you've downloaded the Reader, it will start automatically whenever you want to look at a PDF file.
PDF files are especially useful for documents such as magazine articles, product brochures, or flyers in which you want to preserve the original graphic appearance online. A PDF file contains one or more page images, each of which you can zoom in on or out from. You can page forward and backward.

Portable Document Format. Created by Adobe 15-20 years ago, I believe. It's a universal document file type, in that you don't need the font that the document uses. You can save pretty much any document as a .pdf....text, images, whatever. It's usually smaller than the original. Thank you, Adobe!
