its hard to say, what the cause could be. I suffered from lower back pain for quite some time due to the work I did. What actually helped me, was I started to focus on my feet. I know that sounds weird but alot of the research I did stated that many lower back pain incidents are sometimes related to the feet. If you fun alot or are very active, you are doing a number on your feet and that can affect your back. I went to Target and I was looking to purchase insoles for my shoes. I ended finding an insole called Orthotics. They are a hard plastic insole that supports the arch in your foot. It cost me about $20 dollars and I have not had back pain since. It may not work for you, but if you go to a Target store in the near future, check out the isle that has all the insoles for shoes. The product should be called Orthotics, it will stand out because it is a hard plastic insole and it costs the most money. It's worth it, and I would try it and see what happens. you have nothing to loose.

One thing I can say, when i first started using them, it hurt my foot for a while, than I adjusted to them and now I have them in all of my shoes. They last very long time, I have had them in my work boots for over a year now and the are still in tact.

Are you doing specific back exercises? Lay on your tummy and put your hands under your chin, fingers laced together. Now do reverse sit ups raising your head off of the floor a few inches. It will be hard to do at first but gradually increase the number to 30 and then hold the head off of the floor for 30 seconds to one minute as your back gains strength. This has taken all of my back pain away since the lower back muscles have increased in strength.

well, it could be a pulled muscle. being a 3 sport athlete, no wonder it still hurts! take a couple days to let the muscle relax, it's the only way its going to heal properly. rest, heating pads, and icy-hot will do wonders for lower back pain. ask your doctor if there are any stretches or exercises you can do to help relax the muscle.
