By the rule, the recommended amount of water you need to drink is to multiply your body weight in pounds by 0.5 then divide the product by 8 and the answer you get is the recommended number of CUPS of water you drink daily in normal situations. For example if your body weight is 150 pounds: 150 X 0.5 =75, then 75 divided by 8 = 9.375 --> so the amount of water required would be about 9-10 cups.

The amount you drink could also vary according to your activities and other factors such as the temperature. More activities and hotter temperatures will require more water.

Eating foods with good water sources is also advisable in addition to the water you drink.

Generally, as long as as there is no any indication of limiting your water or fluids intake, drink as much as you can tolerate. Eating a well balanced diet alongside is a must of course, otherwise you will end up having an electrolyte imbalance if you take more water with less intake of other essential substances your body needs.
