I have only known 3 Mormons in my life. Two of them are on here! Drizzt and Catti-Brie. They are both really excellent people. The one other Mormon I know is a very good friend of mine, as well. So, why all the hating on Mormons? What's so bad about a Mormon?

I hang around with Mormons all the time! But then, I'm a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Seriously, "Mormons" are people just like everyone else. Over the years I have learned that there are "people" and then there's the "Church." People (e.g., Mormons, Jews, Atheists, Catholics, etc...) can be idiots and hurtful.

No one is perfect. No one is always wonderful just because of their religion, or lack thereof. I have know many wonderful Mormons. I also have know wonderful people from many other faiths. I've only met a couple of hurtful Mormons and they didn't realize they were being twits.

I think it is wrong to judge a person by their religion and to make assumption about a religion when you don't know understand it. I bring this up since there are some really weird, and erroneous, things said about Mormons (many things have been stated here).

I get sooooo tired of being told I am not a Christian and that I belong to a cult. I think I understand more about what I believe and about my religion than they do, when they tell me I don't believe in Christ!

I'm another member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as a Mormon.

It pleases me that you think some of us are cool. What I find un-cool are the constant misinterpretations of the Church doctrine, such as that we Mormons were and are racists just because the priesthood was denied blacks until 1978. Blacks have always been permitted to join the Church and the history of the Church confirms that.

Missourians didn't want Mormons in their state for several reasons, one of which of the stance against slavery by the Latter-day Saints. The Missourians wanted slavery and did everything possible to keep the practice.

Other examples point to the former practice of polygamy, modern-day prophets and apostles, certain temple ordinances that are founded biblically, and the Church's view of women in general.

As one fellow expressed well, believing what some tout about the Church is the same as going to a Ford dealership to buy a Chevrolet, or asking Apple all about Microsoft.

I think so but then I am Mormon so maybe I am biased. As to why all the hating we have a saying. The truth cutteth to the core. Meaning that when people hear the truth it is the easiest way to anger or offend some one. The other reason is because people choose to not find out for themselves but rather listen to preachers who need the members to pay their salarys or ex mormons who are angry with the church. Either way you might as well go to a ford dealer to get a chevy. Good luck, and always judge for yourself.

So far, I haven't had any bad experiences with Mormons, save an unsavory chat experience with a religious chatroom several years back.

I do, however, have issue with the face that the Mormon Faith did not recognize black people as members until 1979. and it makes me wonder if these folks read and learned the history before getting involved with the Mormon Faith. But if you're in an area where there's hardly any black people, I guess it doesn't matter...

I'm a Mormon myself, so I think they're pretty great! Seriously, I really love my religion, it is definitely the way to go.

As for "why all the hating on Mormons," I think it's because some of our beliefs sound a little strange when you don't know the whole story, so there's a lot of really weird rumors that get started about us. To me, the real mystery is why so many people just believe the rumors without ever bothering to find out the truth.

I only know of 3 - cattie, Imamormon (although going as something else now) and the presidential candidate. I really like the first two, but really don't like the latter. Nothing to do with mormanism actually, just the person and what I've seen from them.

Just like with any religion, there's the good and the bad ones. I live in Colorado, and there are plenty of Mormons here. You start to find the good AND the bad ones. I know plenty of both. MormonISM, on the other hand, I completely disagree with. But that's not because of the people. It's just the belief. I hope this helps a little.

I only hate it when "elders" less than half my age knock on my door or take a neighor's politeness as a weakness and keep returning to badger them.

My cousin is a Mormon convert who's none too pleased that the week her 19 year old spent with me a few years ago put him on the path to atheism, even though he asked all the questions and I did no sort of preaching, just gave honest answers about myself.

I'm persona non grata now. She forces a smile, says Hi and goes to the other side of the room.

People don't like things that are not what they consider 'normal'. There is nothing wrong with Mormons in fact, they are very spiritual people which makes sinners very uncomfortable. It's easier to critisize than to look in a mirror and hate what you've become.

Well, like UAdan I thought I was one of the exceptions also. I'm kind of a nerd actually. But I just read Mikeananda's answer and he thinks I'm cool. So I guess it's official.

PS I'm the one who used to be Imamormon2.

I've met cool people from all lot of different religions, philosophies, or lack thereof. No Hindu's, but that's cuz I've never met one, so we'll see.
