For every story I read hear about a dog that is friendly with a bird, I could show you a story about a bird that got KILLED when the owner tried to make a dog and bird associate!
YES it is possible that the bird may get along with the dog, and they may be friends.
It is also possible that the dog may kill and even eat the bird! And the real problem is that an attack may not come instantly! It could take days , weeks or even months for something to trigger this behavior in the dog!
Is it really worth endangering your birds life?
I guess the main thing you need to ask yourself is, are you doing this for the bird or for YOU? Are yuo putting these creatures together to look "cute", or is there a real benefit for the bird?
If this will benefit the bird in a real way, then it might be worth taking it VERY slowly and trying to socialize the bird with this natural predator.
But if this is just being done to look cute or to show off to friends, then the danger seems to be way out of proportion for the bird!
There is a REASON why birds and dogs do NOT associate in the wild!!

I don't have much experience with birds or chihuahuas, but with any new animal I have brought home to a pet already living in the house I have had that experience. There will be a period of readjustment, but first you are going to have to introduce them to each other. I would personally keep the bird cage up as high as possible where the chihuahua, no matter how clever, can't reach. Hope this was a little helpful and that you get the answer you need.

Remeber, the cage for your bird needs to be high off of the ground, for these reasons (your dog might get him!). Also, if your dog does get jealous, or, you are affraid your dog will try to get at your bird, the answer is simple, just keep the bird cage in a differernt room than your dog goes into. This way, you will be able to sneek into the room everyday, either while your dog is sleeping, a family member is taking him out for a walk, or, after you have played with him for awhile. Your pup will understand as long as you spend enough time with the both of them everday! Though, I wouldn't take chances as to letting your dog even sniff out your bird, for, your dog could easily snatch him, and, your bird will be scared to death!
I hope that I helped! Thanks,

Most of my dogs have gotten along well with my birds.
Especially the female dogs, as they have a maternal instinct that they can apply to small animals.
If she's a nice dog like you say, introduce her to the bird. Say, "Look what I got for you! A cute little bird. Be careful, don't scare the cute little bird!" or words/gestures to that effect.
But if she's predatory toward smaller animals, you need to be careful.

I have a Chihuahua and a parrot and they get along great. The parrot really likes the dog and tries to get as close as he can to her. But introduce them slowly. I waited well over a year before I let them get to close together. Now they sleep next to each other at times. The chihuahua is a great dog and loves everyone.
