Do not feel so bad about not understanding the Bible. It takes a lot of study to understand it.
First of all, asking questions about the Bible is great. Everyone should know about this book.
Second, you show signs of a spiritual disadvantage: Check this out,
1 Cor 3:19
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
(KJV)
1 Cor 1:25
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
(KJV)
1 Cor 1:27
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
(KJV)
1 Cor 2:4-5
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
(KJV)
1 Cor 2:7-8
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
(KJV)
1 Cor 2:10-11
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
(KJV)
1 Cor 2:13-14
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
(KJV)
If these scriptures make any sense to you, then you realize, all the education it the world will not help you understand the Bible better.
Try a little experiement (this will only work if you are truly interested in the Bible):
1. Pray to God and ask Him to give you wisdom.
2. Begin to seek wisdom from the Bible (The beginning of Widsom of Fear/Respect of God)
3. Pray for God to give you His Spirit so that you can understand Spiritual things.
Doing these three things will require a little faith on your part at first. But if you catch on, then pretty soon you will have understood that by Salvation in Jesus Christ a person receives the Holy Spirit of God, and the Bible begins to open up.
By the way, tell all the rude people that the Bible teaches the power of the Bible is not in Reading it, but in hearing it being preached.
Good luck with your degree.

There is nothing wrong with asking legitimate questions about the Bible. If you ask a question, and you get a lot of smart mouths, just ignore those and look for the legitimate ones that might help you. If you ask in a respectful way, you will get some respectful answers. Read the Bible, and bring any question to us, and if we know the answers, then we will answer them. You will just have to wade through the garbage. I don't claim to know all the answers. And if you get confussed, that does not make you stupid.

A graduate degree from an American university? If so, don't be too quick with the stupid thing.
But, seriously folks... There is nothing wrong with asking questions about the Bible. How else can we learn. Never trust a teacher who wants to give you his side but won't entertain questions from a different perspective. If he knows his stuff he should be able to handle whatever you bring.
No one living on this planet can say they know absolutly everything that is meant in the writings of the Bible. But, there are some who know a great deal. Try to find someone like this.

Read the questions first. Some are intended only to offend. But they don't succeed on true Christians. Yet the response may come hard for those asking touching that sensitive chord that made them posting the question in the first place so they grow angrier by the minute (question).

There are different types of bibles and biblical references.
I think the passion that you see is that there are those who are expert or at least very familiar with one resource and not the other.
A lot of times, they measure everyone by their level of expertise.
I work on cars and trucks for a living (25+ yrs) and I still am humbled by the breadth and knowledge of the posters who participate here at Yahoo.

I am a granny, so maybe I can
call you honey. I am not so
fond of your "pumpkins", but
whenever I'm on or whenever
I see one of your questions,
I will be more than glad to answer you openly and honestly.
I know the Bible pretty well,
and won't steer you wrong.
Some people may shine you on because they just don't know the correct answers.

I know the basic stories of the Bible but I have asked questions on YA on certain things I don't understand. Not everyone has read the Bible so I don't blame them or abuse them because of it.

Nothing bad about asking questions about the Bible. the more you ask the more will be revealed to you, if you are willing to ask more.
Do not be disturbed by remarks of so called Christians. If there were ever atheists, rebels, agnostics, they came to be like that because they saw half bred Christians who gave a false image of God.
It is sad to be like them and yet still pretend you are a Christian.

because some people find it offensive when other poeple question their beliefs and because half of the people on here ask pointless or stupid questions just to get a reaction. Try a better site for the serious Biblical questions...
no offence Yahoo, but most of the people on here are idiots
