If he eats it with his meals all the time, he can learn to expect it and then may not want to eat his dog food without the canned pumpkin.

You could use it as a "treat", such as putting it in a kong and freezing it.

You would have to use it in moderation.. like feeding a child ice cream all the time.. he will get where he only wants pumpkin and not his food..
so no.. not all the time

unless u just add a tablespoon or two to his regular food.. but that will spoil him ,,,,,,good..

when he follows ur commands would be a good time to let him lick some off of a spoon.. and get him to know that it is a reward for good behavior.. so when u are training him outside to not jump up on u.. or not lick ur hands.. etc..
good luck..

It's fine, although if he really likes it, I'd just save it out and use it as a healthy training treat. Give him his little bit every day but ask him to work for it.

In response to a previous poster, I see no reason why continuing pumpkin would *cause* diarrhea. Pumpkin is fiber and fiber typically creates regularity, i.e. helps constipation *and* diarrhea, not make stools looser. If it did happen to get loose stools, stop using it. Easy.

canned pumpkin is good for clearing it up, but once you go too far and give it too often, it causes diarrhea. Mine live the taste too, but they rarely get it, i don't feel like cleaning up runny poo every day.
ADD: small amounts help diarrhea, too much has the opposite effect, and gives dogs the runs, though it is fiber, it is in a mushy canned form, if the food is a paste, the poop is a paste, no matter how much fiber is in it.

No he needs a balanced diet. Make some treats made with pumpkin that are probably better for him.

I agree with the first poster - dogs don't need vegetables they need meat. If you choose to feed your dog vegies or table scraps then it should be a very small part of the overall diet.

So no - I don't think you should give it to him all the time.

Absolutely not.

Dogs are meant to eat meat, so if I am to suggest any dry dog food, go with Innova Evo, which has no grains at all.

Sure, feed it to him all the time. That way you just have to put a pie pan under him when he craps and you don't have to do any baking! Simple!
