I do not believe we are capable of discerning sufficient experience in one brief existence to either deserve or even comprehend being judged.

It is near. The scriptures give a reasonable account of how this will happen. There are several discriptions of the event and some variations in the discriptions. If you take into consideration the fact that these discriptions were given to these prophets in visions and that these visions were recorded by them with their ability to describe what they saw in the vision, these differences can easily be accounted for.
One says that Christ will come as a refining fire, another says that the earth will be wrapped up like a scroll and the elements will melt with fervent heat. These accounts have several characteristics in common.
If you have ever watched a documentary on volcanic activity perhaps you can recall how it always appears that everything gets folded together. How could you describe this event to someone who would have no idea what you were talking about? There is no need then, to state the obvious; that the elements would melt with fervent heat.
The earth's crust is very thin, and when a tectonic plate slips it will often slide under or over another plate giving the appearance of being rolled up like a scroll.
Another account says the smooth places will be broken up, mountains will become valleys and valleys will become mountains. When tectonic plates don't slip, they force each other up into mountain ranges.
I try to take these prophecies and look at things that have already happened in the past. How do you think that continent sized sections of earth's surface sank, were covered, and the vegetation that was on these sunken sections of earth became the oil fields that are now being used as a source of energy? Some believe that this happened over a long period of time, but the fact that vegetation decomposes rapidly would dispute that claim. Since these events have occurred in the past several times, there is no reason to believe that it will not happen again, even in our life time on a greater scale than ever before recorded.
There are no isolated places on earth anymore. Satelites and television have the whole world within our view in an instant; this also is in fulfillment of the prophecy that says every eye will see, and every knee will bow. There has been no other time in history that this prophecy could have been fulfilled.

We all will appear before God. If your name is written in the book of life then He will tell you to enter good and faithful servant. If it isn't written in the book then He says depart from me , I never knew you (or something like that ) and off to hell you go. That's the day EVERY ONE WILL BOW BEFORE THE LORD. You'll have no choice, you will just do it. and of course, by then you will know ,without a doubt, that Jesus is real, BUT, my friend it will be way too late then. Now is the day for salvation. He will reveal every thing we've done and we will have to give an account. If you're a Christian and have asked forgiveness then what you did is no more remembered. Only the sin you haven't ask forgiveness for will be held against you. We will be given crowns in Heaven and I suppose the day of judgement is the day we receive them. There are different rewards for the saints. We will all be saints in Heaven.

It will happen as the Bible says it will. Sadly I haven't read over the judgement day much. I'm in the middle of Matthew.

Yes, and suddenly, although we are in the last day has already begun. However, we are not in the last part of the last day. Check out the book of Revelation; you'll see parts have come true, and others are in progress; still others have yet to be fulfilled.

Unbelievers will be judged and sentenced forever for their sins ,
then Jesus will judge the believers on what they have done for him and will reward them accordingly . Those who after hearing his word and sat on their thumbs , their rewards will be given to other believers.

"So then each of us will give an account of himself to God" - Romans 14:12
Yes I believe in a judgment - not so sure about the "day" concept however.
