Drink a couple of litres of water, and make sure you eat properly beforehand. and don't be nervous, it's not as scary as it seems. and don't stand up straight away once it's done, sit until you feel ready to stand otherwise you could get lightheaded.
also remember that you're going to be saving the lives of 3 people when you do it. I hope you're proud of yourself.

First, thank you for offering to donate blood. Not everyone qualifies to do so, and you will find out when you go and give your information and they test your hemoglobin (if you don't have a high enough hemoglobin, you can't donate). It's really very easy ... they spray your elbow at the 'bend' with some cold stuff to numb you, and insert the needle. The needle is already attached to the 'blood bag' and you bleed one pint of blood. Then they remove the needle, put a bandage on the hole with a small piece of cotton so you don't bleed, and you go to the 'cafeteria' or someplace to have a glass or two of juice and a cookie because you need to 'rebuild the blood' and you may feel weak and the 'sugar' helps you get through that.

Brace yourself, they use a bigger needle than they do when you go to the hospital/doctor to get blood taken. They just like to do it quick, get in and out and get it over with since they do it to so many people, so it might pinch a bit more, but it's not that bad. You're doing a great thing, you should be proud!! Other than that, like I said, it'll be over in a second, very quick then they'll give you a bit of juice and a cracker and sit down so you're not dizzy then you'll be on your way.

Yes- eat breakfast! It doesn't really hurt to give blood, but make sure your blood sugar is normal (by eating-orange juice and toast is perfect). If not, then you will feel dizzy and possibly faint. Also, get a lot of sleep tonight.

Do you know if you have a blood clot disorder like factor 5?

Make sure the staff wears gloves, smudges you with alchol to clean your skin.

Drink a lot of water or fruit juice before you go in. They will give you some anyway. Don't take aspirin!
