I love photography but have no formal training. I have a manual Nikon and a digital D55 Nikon as well. I would like to learn the craft of manual photography to be able to apply it to the manual feature of my digital camera, as well as to be able to use my manual NIkon. I would like to learn on my own. Is there anyone who can point me to the right books? Or if you have a better suggestion I will appreciate it. Thanks.

i really dont like books, nothing beats real instruction.
I recommend you take a basic photography class at a community college. Even if you are still in hig school or middle school you are allowed to take classes in evenings or during summer.
Make sure you go to a school before signing up, ask the teacher for a course sylabus, and show him/her your camera.
ALSO ask what the class costs, how much film , photopaper, etc.
If you know the cost ahead of time, you can save up if you need to.
If you have any specific photo questions feel free to e mail me.

I suggest a copy of "Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition" by George M. Craven.

You might also enjoy "How To Select & Use Nikon SLR Cameras" by Carl Shipman. There is a copy on ebay now, starting at $0.79 with $4.00 shipping, Item # 300176040433 and it ends in 2 days.

One of the most useful books I've ever read...

National Geographics Photographers Field Guide

Great book in two parts, first the basics of photography like Exposure, shutter speed, aperture, angle of view as relates to focal length of lenses, depth of field, flash basics and much much more, part two real advise on how to shoot just about every subject you can point a camera at from National Geographic pro's.

I read a lot, and it's by far one of the best IMHO.

G'Luck, keep shooting !!!
