I got a 6-9 month old cat off of craigslist a month or two ago and I'm pretty sure that she was a stray and spent all of her time outside before some nice people took her in and rehomed her. The problem is, every now and then she tries really hard to get out of my house and I live in a city and don't think it's a good idea to let her be an outdoor cat. Is there any way (beside waiting for her to grow out of it) to get her to stay inside? Any help would be appreciated.

If I take my cat outside in the summer just once, she tries to get back out. Just do not let the cat out and he/she will do better about that. Mine would even wait by the door so when we would come in from outside, she would try to shoot out. We started tapping on the front window before opening the door so that she would jump on the couch to look out at us so that we could come in.

Just don't let her out. Lots of cats enjoy looking out of windows - pull the blinds up or drapes away, and provide a place for her to sit and look. I call it "cat TV." They get to experience the outdoors while living in the comfort of the indoors. I have 4 cats, and the youngest was a stray. She enjoys this tremendously. This one also tries to get out once in a while, and even manages, but fortunately I live in the suburbs. Give her lots and lots of love - strays are usually happy to have it after all the abuse they've been given. If she does manage an escape, you'll be able to entice her back in if she knows that's where she feels the most loved. You've probably done this, but make sure she is spayed. Nothing is worse than a cat in heat dying to get outside.

in case you stay an position of abode i'm assuming this is on the city? if so leaving your cat outdoors is a lack of life SENTENCE. he receives run over by ability of a automobile, probable quicker somewhat than later. you basically can not save him outdoors especially if he's used to being an indoor cat. you may both conceal him or provide him away yet outdoors isn't an decision except you're happy with almost murdering your cat - do you want that on your judgment of properly and incorrect? imagine of what number of human beings force round your position of abode daily he receives run over believe me. perchance you would possibly want to attempt negotiating such as your position of abode proprietor? If the cat is neutered and de-clawed i do not see why there should be an objection (i do not believe declawing yet in circumstances like this this is better efficient than being exceeded over to die). position of abode vendors make me so mad this is compared to cats somewhat harm some thing - all they could do is scratch and also you would possibly want to conceal the claws or have them bumped off. this is stupid to make human beings remove their pets i imagine those human beings haven't any heart in any respect.

Not really much you can do.Cats like to be outdoors, they are predators, try getting her a toy mouse or something like that so she feels like she`s hunting.

It's natural to be outside. give her plenty to do as in toys and play games with her.
