Bragging about giving charity and how much a person gives often shows how insecure a person can be and that they need some form of validation. Give because it is the right thing to do. Give to a charity or even of your time because you can. Do not to give to a charity merely to inflate your ego or to show off to others.

Discussing donations that you make is not necessarily bragging. It can raise awareness and bring charitable thoughts to the forefront of another person's mind. I have purposefully discussed my charitable habits with others knowing that it would probably bring them to want to give as well. That is not a bad thing.

If someone asks "do you donate money blah blah blah" ~ you answer ~ then they ask "Is it really charity when you brag about how often and how much you give to charity" ~ that's not even bragging. That's just falling into their trap with a sincere and innocent heart.

Whoever is on the receiving end is getting the benefit of the charity.

If someone gives fifty canned goods to the food bank, it fills the tummies of those who need it just the same, weather the person takes their good deed to the grave, tells the whole world about it, or doesn't say much, but tells people about it if they ask.

It still is charity, but isn't as noble, because then you are just doing it for attention. The best sort of giving is when you DON'T tell someone...it shows you really care and don't worry about "being SEEN as a good person". Being seen as a good person and being a good person are often two separate things.

Yes you get something out of it.. satisfaction. What counts is the result of the charity.. that by these actions, people are getting help. Doesn't matter if the person who gives it is a show off.. Yes, it is charity!

Those who give charity out in open to religious organizations during fund raising gatherings do so for their recognition and respect. They do get respect from people. They have no reward from God on the Day of Judgment.

Those give charity by heart to please God, give secretly to really poor families who desparately need help and do not tell others as Prophets said not the let hand know about it.

Such are the one who get great reward of heaven from God.

Charity is a way of never actually fixing a problem but always getting the credit of doing that.

of course it is annoying when people do that..........
however......
the people who benefited from the money, food, or whatever was received from this person could really care less what he is bragging about I am sure.......
it might be better to give and to shut up about it
but I would rather see someone give and brag a little (obviously there is a need that has yet to be met inside this person as well), then not to give at all and not benefit the people who might truly be hurting in some way otherwise.
he might be a braggart.......but he is still a good deed doer...
it kind of evens out........if it truly bothers you, just ask him politely to stop........I'll bet he does.

PEOPLE MAY HAVE THE BAD TASTE TO BRAG, NOT ANSWERING A QUESTION MIND YOU, BUT BRAGGING ON A REGULAR BASIS MAY GIVE IN PURELY SELF INTEREST, BUT SOMEONE IN NEED STILL BENEFITS FROM IT. SO YES AND NO. THE DEFINITION OF CHARITY IS THE PRACTICE OF BENEVOLENT GIVINGS. DEPENDS ON THE INTENT OF GIVING TO THE CHARITY. IF YOU GIVE ONLY SO OTHER PEOPLE WILL KNOW, THEN IT ISN'T CHARITY. IT SELF INTEREST.

No, It's not considered charity then. Good works are from the heart. Not for others to see.
