Doctors etc. didn't used to think that children could suffer from depression but they do now. I know I started with it at about 9yrs old and attempted suicide at 13 but even then nobody said it could be depression but that was nearly 30yrs ago.

Now it is different and the powers that be do recognize that children do suffer from this but as to this occurring in someone quite so young as yourself how terrible. I hope you are well now.

I think now more than ever we see depression and suicide attempts and suicides than before. It is not uncommom I think it is over-seing. The average person is now too busy to take a look around their surroundings and realize that our youth is ignored and abandoned. I believe that is why depression is so common on younger people. You have being depressed your whole life, have you gotten help? Try not to get on pills, I tried it and the side effects were horrible. I read a book that actually helped called "the Power of Positive Thinking" it talked about how you see the world and how you can change it. I believed it, I believed that I can cry or smile, it was up to me because s**t was gonna happen anyways. And here I am still standing ... Good Luck to you, SMILE, the world loves you, its up to you to LOVE back.

It's unusual, but not unheard of, for someone to be depressed and suicidal at such an early age.

The late teens and early 20s are the optimum age for suicide attempts.

Actually depression is more common than you think, even in children. You would really be amazed to learn how young kids have these thoughts. Its sad, really, but I think the issue is gaining more attention and parents are more aware of it. Best of luck to you.

I think it's a lot more common than you think. Anorexia is an example of depression gone to far. I say put prozac in the water supply.

If you're not being challenged, suicidal thoughts aren't abnormal. You have to escape from your constraints in another way, though- challenge yourself in other ways and you'll feel much better about yourself even if your surroundings remain constant.
