You should hang out as friends and see how that goes before getting into another relationship. It is too soon to get into anything serious until you figure out why the first relationship went nowhere but other than that it doesn't hurt to go out with this guy. Make sure that your self esteem never suffered from being dumped - or being treated in a way that made you dump this guy - I will give you a site for that. but this guy may be better than your ex and ou won't know until you go out with him a couple of times. Good Luck to you!!

Are ya busted up or not?
If ya are, then who cares what the ex thinks. He's obviously a twit cuz he let ya go, but play your cards right and don't blab anything to the ex's friend that might come back and bite ya.
Be cool, play it by ear, after all you may be right about your ex makin' a play fer ya again and then your ex-ex may blab and leave ya standin' in the cold with your chin on yer chest.

Doesnt really matter what your ex thinks about anything, or do you still have feelings for your ex.
The way I see it is, you and your ex are over and what you want to do with whom ever else it is, is your choice.
If you want to get back with your ex, then maybe hooking up with his friend isnt a good idea, but if you fancy his friend then there is no reason to go ahead with it

If you still have feelings for your ex then you should inform him that his bestfriend is trying to hook up with you.
If he doesn't mind then you should give in to his best friend's advances.
But if he does mind, then you better tread carefully. Afterall, you certainly wouldn't want to be the culprit to turn your ex and his bestfriend into enemies with each other, would you?
If your breakup with your ex is clean and a harmonious one, then by all means, get hooked up with his bestfriend. If you don't care about how he feels anymore, just get hooked up with his best friend straight away.

Your biggest problem lays in the second word of your question, he is your ex's best friend, you might want to talk to the ex and find out if that is ok. If not thats putting two friends at odds.

If you think there's a chance for you and your so called ex (?), then politely tell him it's against your own rule to go out with friends of guy's you've been serious with. That should be good enough to keep him at bay and if it isn't and you find yourself amused by him and want to date him, break your rule (that was made up).

It's usually not a good thing to date an ex's friends. There are plenty of other guys out there who think you're hot.

I thought the rule of dating was to never mess with or date your ex's friends. What if your ex messed with your best friend, how would you feel? What if your friend started coming on to your ex, wouldn't you feel disrespected? If you're ready to hook up with someone, find someone else.

1st of all....don't wait around to get back together with your ex. Remember you broke up for a reason. Who cares what he thinks....if the friend seems like a good guy give him a chance....have fun!!!!
