The tribe of Dan as a whole was guilty of gross idolatry—even to the point of stealing the idols they used to practice their religion (Judges 18:14-31). Theirs was the first organized idolatry in ancient Israel, and the longest in duration. It continued "until the day of the captivity of the land," nearly 500 years later (Judges 18:30). Jewish tradition says that Dan was the first tribe to follow Jeroboam into his sin of idolatry, and in their literature, the term "Dan" is often used to represent idolatry. From this summarized history of the tribe, it becomes obvious why Dan would not be among the 144,000 "servants of our God," as they are called in Revelation 7:3. Dan thoroughly rejected God's true religion for thousands of years, substituting a continuous tradition of idolatry. The end-time descendants of Dan say, "I have waited for your salvation, O LORD" (Genesis 49:1, 18). The vast majority of Danites must wait for salvation until after the sealing of the 144,000.

These eleven (listed in Rev) are God's witnesses. Dan was however elected in the OT to be the judge of the other tribes. And one knows that a judge cannot also be a witness!

Well, I have heard some theories, but nothing's really concrete.
There was one that said, because the Antichrist will come from the tribe of Dan.

Edit: responding to Lillie..
The Watchtower or Jehovah's Witnesses'beliefs are not biblical.
Remember, cults pervert the truth.

The twelve tribes mentioned in the Book of Revelation refer to spiritual Israel and not earthly Israel who was rejected by Jehovah God after they had his Son put to death, for several valid reasons.
Firstly the listing does not match that of natural Israel found at Numbers chapter 1.
Also,Jerusalem's temple and priesthood and all the tribal records of natural Israel were permanently destroyed, lost forever, long before John had his vision in 96CE.
But more importantly,John received his vision upon a background of the aforementioned developments from and after Pentecost 33CE. In the light of such events,John's vision of those standing on the heavenly Mount Zion with the Lamb(whom naturael Israel had rejected) revealed the number of this spiritual Israel of God to be 144000 "bought from among mankind"

Well, first of all, it's REVALATION...no "s" at the end.

This shows that the number 144, 000 is not from the literal Jews or Jewish people.

There is no such book as "revalations".

And it's 144,000 MALE Jews who have not been "soiled" by women, so I guess we can assume that most of them are homosexual? That seems to me a more reasonable assumption than 144,000 celibates!
