I had a gun stolen. The cop came to my house to take the report. After taking the report, the officer, told me that decent people didn't own guns and I should just turn my other guns into the police station. I said "You didn't grow up with guns, did you?" He said, "No, I own one gun for my work, and I regret having to carry it." He then repeated his statement that good people don't own guns and that I would be better off turning mine in.
Also, in Los Angeles, when you buy a gun now (there is only one gun shop in Los Angeles where you can buy a gun in LA) you have to sign a paper written by the City Council saying that you understand that guns are not useful for home defense, and that you are more likely to be killed by your gun than use it to defend you life.
Any other place where stuff like this is going on?

Turner's Outdoorsman in Los Angeles is the only legal gunshop in the entire city. The Los Angeles Police Department Gun Squad ran all the other Gun Shops out of town. They would arrest the owner if someone filled out a gun form and abbreviated "Blvd." instead of writing Boulevard for their address.

this is bull. you know he pulls that gun out when he catches a black guy jaywalking. cops think they own everything, and they don't like it when people besides them have power.

Yow-zer! That's un-American AND ignorant! Chances are he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his gun either.
!! If "good people don't own guns", only the BAD PEOPLE will !!
I've been a cop 20+yrs and wish more law-abiding citizens would be responsible enough to (legally) take advantage of their 2nd amendment right to "keep AND BEAR arms"! Go to your local Probate Court and look into the requirements for getting a permit to carry concealed.
HANDguns really AREN'T the best choice for home-defense though! A 12ga shotgun loaded with birdshot (or turkey load (2's & 4's) at room range will STOP an aggressor from committing a felony -- I guarantee that! Larger shot or single projectiles run the risk of over-penetration -- potentially harming someone in the next room or the next house for that matter!
As to your query -- "Any other places where stuff like this..."
NAZI GERMANY -- UNDER HITLER'S RULE!
Oh, and a lot of the New England/North Eastern states right here in America too :-)
If law-abiding citizens turn in their guns, only criminals will have guns!
Gun Control defined: Grip, Sight Alignment, Trigger Squeeze (abbreviated version)

Sounds like a cranky cop having a bad day. Anyone else wishing CA would just fall into the ocean? I own many guns, and here MN we've had no probs so far with conceal and carry permits. These let you carry your gun right on you, provided it's concealed. Good luck!

I think you ran into one Officer that doesn't know when to keep his personal opinions to him/herself.
Even though I support gun ownership rights I don't really tell people one way or the other my feelings about the subject when I'm in Uniform or on duty.
The paper you have to sign is nothing more than a useless, fuzzy, feel good law by the LA City Council. They can't run a city Govt. effectively, yet are "Experts" on gun ownership?
edit to dr. forward, you are sadly mistaken, sir!

Maybe the cop didn't choose his words well.
It is a fact that you are more likely to be killed by a gun you own than by an intruder. Perhaps the cop has seen too many bad scenes where the violence was an inside family job....and maybe he didn't "spill his guts" but wanted to share the idea that you may be making a mistake. I am sure it didn't come from a liberal communist like plot! For goodness sakes, he is there to protect the community, including idiots.

I guess that's life in the People's Republic of California. I guess California gun laws don't apply to Bloods, Crips, MS-13 or any other other hundred youth gangs kickin' it in LA.
The one thing I do appreciate about Pennsylvania is that they adhere to the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment that California abandoned long ago.
I feel for you. All I can say is "Fight the Power."

With a few exceptions, all over.
Depending on were you live, that 'officer' could have been placed under citizen's arrest by you for the act of criminal misconduct by even saying what you say he said, while wearing his badge.
I would have done him those very honors.
On forms such as that, I have been known to preceed my signature with a statement to the effect that until any of them were shot with their own firearms in their own homes, I would consider them to be much less expert in this field than I am.
Don't let 'em intimidate you.
Every law-abiding citizen should be allowed to carry concealed weaponry.

That statistic is true... you are more likely to injure yourself with your sidearm than you are to injure the skell breking into your house. however, 3 out of 4 home invasions in which a firearm was used to successfully defend a premises, the weapon was unloaded and nobody was injured at all. Statistics are crap and will say whatever you want them to. Unless they say it's illegal, ignore them and own all the guns you want. I wish the second amendment had as much power for the people the the first has for the press...

Pretty ridiculus that a man with a gun on his hip told you that you should not have one. I have heard of at least the possibility of things like this happening. Keep your guns. Millions of other people have them.

If this happened the way you describe, a discreet call to the officer's Sgt would be in order.
I'd prefer it if more "Good people" owned guns than "Bad people".
crap like this isn't happening in my state...yet.
