I've been working for over a year as a temp. The manager won't hire me because he feel since I don't have a college degree and kids. I'm not good enough for the company. So now they want me replace in one week notice. Everyone else in the company didn't understand why the change. It's not only confusing, its discriminating. What should I do?

Did you have a contract with the company or with a temporary agency? If you did sign a contract, what does it say about hiring and replacement notices? If you don't have a contract, you have absolutely no protection.

The company is not obligated to offer full-time employment to temporary workers. I don't think the boss feels you are not good enough for the company, or is discriminating, becuase you did work there for over a year. I suggest you collect some references from your boss or coworkers, and get them in writing; that will make it easier for you to find your next job.

Why do you say it's discriminating? Legally discrimination doesn't include either not having a degree, or not having kids - that is NOT discrimination. You have no legal recourse here - it's totally legal for him to let you go.

What should you do? Either talk to the manager and point out areas where you are really valuable to them and ask him to reconsider and keep you on even if it's as a temp, or go look for another job.

In my opinion you have apparently been doing a good job for a year and if I were the manager I would have offered you the job. Unfortunately though it is their right to hire who they please. Next job you get though you may want to ask what are your chances of getting permanent employment rather than just being a temp.
