To put a word in context is to use the word in the sentence, to get its direct purposive meaning..
See some words may sound synonymous in definition and meaning, but once used in context then it becomes more comprehensible and easier to use the word in context.
For example the word" proud"
It can either mean positive or negative, but once used in context then the clear meaning comes out...
Ex: All mothers are proud of their children..(Here it means they take pride and honor)---------------positive meaning
He is too proud that he lost even his closest friend...
( Here it means boastful, arrogant, haughty)---------negative meaning
Ok, got it?
