Both the texture and flavor will be compromised. If it is a small amount (less than 1/4 cup, then it should be ok. Any more than that and you won't have the full flavor that molasses will give you. Molasses also reacts differently in foods, especially baking because of chemical reactions. Your cookies more than likely will be very sticky if you use corn syrup. Karo is made from corn, not sugar cane, so it's chemical properties, along with it's flavor is different. Sorgum would substitute easier for molasses than Karo would. Sorgum is processed much the same way as molasses but molasses is in essence, the dregs of sugar making, the bottom of the barrel.

An interesting side note about Corn Syrup (Karo is one brand of it) is that on the molecular level, it is one atom different than plastic. i.e. it is not easy to digest and it is not good for the human physiology to consume it. It is a pity that so much of the food on the grocery shelves in the US is laden with corn syrup, from soft drinks, canned fruits, to crackers. Read the labels if you want to steer clear of it.
