Since this nation was founded a Christian nation, can we say that atheists are Un-American? And if so, should they be treated as terrorists?

To those who say this nation was not founded Christian, 52 of the 55 members who formed the Constitution were active members of their church.

I don't think they are Un-American, they were raised by parents without any kind of christian beliefs. That doesn't make them terrorists.

Once again: THIS NATION WAS NOT FOUNDED AS A CHRISTIAN NATION!! Take your nose out of your bible and read some history. Thomas Jefferson thought Christianity was idiotic (I'm paraphrasing). Benjamin Franklin thought lighthouses were more useful than churches. There is NO mention of a deity of any kind in the Constitution, the document on which our nation was founded. So, where do you get the crackpot idea that this is a Christian nation? If the Founding Fathers didn't think so, who are you to say otherwise? Show me any evidence that what you say is true.

You are seriously deluded. You'll find that atheists are fighting FOR this country, to maintain the rights that some fundamentalists want to take away and impose their religion on everyone else.

This country was founded on freedom, not as a theocracy.

Added: Being active in church in the early days of this country was practically mandatory. If you did business or wanted to be part of the community, you went to church. The Founding Fathers were VERY careful not to insert Christianity into the new government.

Back then, it doesnt matter who attended church. In that time they were REQUIRED to attend church, but that did not necessarily mean they beleived what they heard.

The founders did not write GOD into the Constitution. In fact they deliberately made sure that religion and state were kept SEPARATE.

How many kids go to church now because they are told to go. Most kids do so because their parents make them. And as soon as they turn 18, they stop attending & usually stop believing - exactly like I did.

You are like all other fundamentalist christians and trying to make America a theocracy. So you can prepare for Armageddon. Theocracies do not work. Oh, and Armageddon is not coming.

This nation was founded so that (at least most) people could practice whatever religion (or not) they wanted. Of course, all peoples born here or naturalized are American--a wonderful array of diversity found in no other country. You need to rethink, buster. You are not a good representative for Christianity.

America was not founded as a Christian nation. It was founded as a nation of religious freedom.

The people who should be treated as terrorists are the ones who suppress the right to religious freedom, which includes not having a religion.

What's "Un-American" is not understanding what brought settlers to this country and what the Constitution is based on - FREEDOM of Religion.

People that force their religion down other people's throats and believe that if you don't follow what they believe they will treat you as a terrorist should be treated like terrorists. Because they ARE.

There is not a single mention of God, Jesus, or Christianity anywhere in the US Constitution The issue was discussed and the Founding Fathers voted God out, intentionally. The democratic republic they created was the first 100% secular government in human history. The following was unanimously passed by the 1797 US Congress and signed into law by President John Adams:

•“As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, …”

THOMAS JEFFERSON

"Religions are all alike – founded upon fables and mythologies."

"I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature."

"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man."

==============

JAMES MADISON

"In no instance have . . . the churches been guardians of the liberties of the people."

"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."

ABRAHAM LINCOLN

"The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession. I could never give assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma."

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

"I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life, I absenteed myself from Christian assemblies."

Episcopalian minister BIRD WILSON (son of Founding Father James Wilson) in an 1831 sermon:

“the founders of our nation were nearly all Infidels, and that of the presidents who had thus far been elected [George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson] _not a one had professed a belief in Christianity_”

The US is not a Christian nation. According to the Constitution, it is a secular nation. Christians who believe the US should be a Christian theocracy are deliberately ignoring the principles of the Constitution and are in danger of doing more damage to freedom and democracy than atheists are.

this is not a christian nation you bloody fool! the first Unalienable Right is THE FREEDOM OF RELIGION and CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION. not all of them were christians. I am an atheist and demand that all of our rights be given back and am a strong supporter of The Constitution. It is you christians who are Unamerican because you gave up capitalism for consumerism and you gave up freedoms for security. giving up freedom for security is a fascist idea and was supported by the Nazis. The way you christians have made america is not how it was supposed to be. so GET OUT OF AMERICA you're ruining it for those who believe in the ideals. I became an anarchist because no government will work with you guys in it and even as an anarchist i still love the constitution.
