I recently started dieting and exercising a little over a month ago and I have already went from 305lbs to 266 lbs. Thats nearly 40 lbs in a little over a month. Everyone keeps telling me it is unhealthy to lose weight this fast, but honestly I am not starving myself or anything. I eat healthy meals a day and a yogurt or fruit as snacks. At my job, in about an 8 hour shift, I probably walk about 2-3 miles as well (hospital security). Also 4-5 days a week I exercise for about 60-90 minutes. I feel better then ever right now...is this unhealthy or am I just so active that the pounds are falling off quickly?

This is a general breakdown of my daily meals in case anyone is curious: (they are usually very similar day to day)

Morning- A bowl of cereal OR 2 eggs 1 piece of wheat toast with a teaspoon of jelly (no butter). A glass of water to drink.

Lunch- Turkey and cheese sandwich on wheat bread, very light mayo. A lowfat yogurt or fruit cup. Diet soda or glass of water.

Dinner- Another turkey and cheese sandwich OR small portion of meat (chicken, steak, pork, etc.), side of vegetable, and another side (such as mashed potatos, noodles, etc.). Diet soda or glass of water to drink.

Side Snacks- 1 yogurt or fruitcup, but before 8pm.

I think you're doing fine, you probably lost a lot of water weight, keep it up, its always easy to lose the first pounds then it will get harder. Peope say if you lose it fast you will gain it fast, if you lose it slowly you will keep it off longer. But I would keep up the good job especially if you feel better, make an apointment with a doctor too, for a random checkup make sure and tell him everything you've done. Nice job.

I think it's quite normal. It seems that the bigger the person is, the more weight he will lose per week/month. If you've ever see those weight loss tv shows (Celebrity fit club, etc.) , you might notice that the skinnier people don't lose weight as fast as the heavier ones do. Your diet and exercise routine sound great. I'd keep with it. I think the fast weight loss is just the body's way of adapting to your new exercise routine.

Fantastic job!!!!!! I tried "everything" and eventually had a bypass...not smart, and still didn't lose much. I am very happy for you. I agree with the other poster...a lot is probably water weight. As long as you stay balanced and keep up the exercise, you'll be fine. If weight continues to drop too fast ,in your opinion, see your doc. Hope you did before you began this ...just to make sure all is well! Blessings and congrats...hope you are doing it for yourself and not for "society."

you need to get your body fat analyzed. any major weight lost on the scale will be a combination of water, fat and muscle. the body does not go from the state of fat storage to accelerated fat loss. this is one of many ways that the body protects itself from starvation. if you lost 40 lbs in once month, close to 80% of that weight was water weight. when the caloric intake is drastically reduced and stored nutrients in the body are metabolized for energy excess water is eliminated from the body.
