Walnut trees depend on squirrels to disperse their seeds. The squirrels eat some of the nuts and bury others.

Maple trees have a winged edge because they use the wind to disperse and the wing makes the seed act like a helicopter and spin around. This can make the seed travel farther and there's less chance for it to get hung up in branches and grasses and make it to the ground.
