that is being done at present is futile?

The planet is not endangered by global warming, it is the human race that might be in trouble. The earth will probably be here long after we are gone.

The present effort is not futile, but it is not nearly as intensive as it needs to be. I'm not even sure if I believe that global temperature is rising due to human activity, but I do know this: We are going to run out of petroleum some day. Supply is not keeping up with demand. It is a finite resource. We depend on it for everything. The carrying capacity of the earth is linked to our ability to find oil to burn. Modern agriculture depends on oil. Modern manufacturing depends on oil. All of our drugs are synthesized with petroleum products. We must develop alternative energy sources. If we end up in a world wide energy crunch we will have a world wide famine. The human race will experience a severe die back. It is hard to predict what the race will look like after such an event. We could wind up with a regression to primitive times, or we could end up extinct.

Global warming is not just a myth and the so called experts that are fueling this rumor are the very people who are behind it (ie. car companies, oil companies, etc. and those paid by these companies to denounce global warming). It is now common fact among scientists that global warming is being greatly increased by human activity. No we can not completely stop global warming but we can greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and if we act now we can change the gloom outcome that awaits us. However, at the rate the world is moving, the effort that is being done at present is futile. More changes must occur!

There is nothing that can be done by you, me, governments, or scientists that will alter the future temperature of the Earth.

The process for warming or cooling the Earth is not fully understood----------- just lowering the CO2 may not change anything............... oh by the way ........... what is the optimum temperature of the Earth?????? answer this question first!

BOB -------- read this and then tell me if you prefer "nature's" temperature------ variations
http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/temperature/

For 85% of the last 3 million years Earth's temps have been very inhospitable-------- with the entire Northern Hemisphere down to about 40 degrees North under 2 miles of ice and snow................ and only short periods of time (10,000 years) as an inter-glacial period---------- sea levels at the height of the ice age were 90 meters !!! lower than today------- and at the dinosaur era 10 - 12 feet above today's levels.

So again I ask "what is the optimum temperature of the Earth?"

Boatman 1 - The optimum temperature is that set by nature. That's been pretty stable until recently. We're doing a fine job of messing it up. Data:

"We humans have built a remarkable socioeconomic system during perhaps the only time when it could be built, when climate was sufficiently stable to allow us to develop the agricultural infrastructure required to maintain an advanced society.

If the Earth came with an operating manual, the chapter on climate might begin with a caveat that the system has been adjusted at the factory for optimum comfort, so don't touch the dials."

No, the earth doesn't need saving. It's just fine. The whole global warming myth is just done to bankrupt the US. Temperature fluctuations happen all the time, such as the Medival Warm Period, followed by the Little Ice Age, followed by the present.

Yes, whatever's done by man is futile, because whatever we do has little impact on climate. One volcano will do more than everything man has ever done.

We're just little dust specks on the big blue sphere of Earth.

This isn't to say all environmentalism is bad. Requiring industries to clean up their toxic waste, preserving the jungles, and having clean water are all important. But we should distinguish between environmentalism and quack science.

I'm not too worried about the Earth. It is the present ecosystem that we do need to worry about. I do not think it is too late. There is a fair amount of warming still "in the pipeline" (presently estimated at about 0.5 degrees in the next 50 years). This is the warming that will occur now no matter what we do. What we do now though will have a large influence on the climate of our grand children and great grand children.

Global warming is a myth. The earth was actually coming out of a mini ice-age that was before the industrial revolution, and the temperatures started heating up before humans were putting CO2 in the air. It is cyclical, and nothing can be done about it. It's great to conserve resources and be environmentally-correct, but please know it has nothing to do with "global warming."

The Earth doesn't need saving. It's the Sheep that believe all the hype that GW is a major issue that will cause the end of the human race that need to be saved. They fall on the propaganda liked rabid beasts and believe all the hypothesis that idiots like Al Gore spew out as fact.

Humans are one of the many factors that caused global warming. It happens before, it will happens again, we just speed up the process. I don't think anything we can do right could stop, maybe slow it down, but not stop it.

I don't think the planet Earth needs saving. It appears to be doing just fine.
